Tuberculosis Spawning in Crowded, Dirty ICE Detention Centers
Doctors and medical researchers expect more outbreaks of infectious disease as the Trump administration crams thousands more people into miserable conditions.

NEW 🚨 The violence is the point. Elected Dems must call for widespread resignations (RFK, Bhattacharya, Prasad) in response to the CDC shooting. Public health must demand this of them, and the public must demand that of us. With @publichealthguy1.bsky.social in STAT: www.statnews.com/2025/08/15/c...
The CDC shooting was public health’s Jan. 6
“In RFK Jr.’s America, it will never be safe to practice public health or medicine," write an epidemiologist and a former CDC staffer.

Same in Yosemite, Kings Canyon/Sequoia, Redwood, Joshua Tree, and every other national park in the country. Behind the scenery, many critical programs and activities are being dismantled, with serious, long-term consequences for park resources.
"Grand Teton and Yellowstone might look like they’re functioning as usual this summer. But that’s a mirage. Beneath it, critical functions such as wildlife science, visitor education, infrastructure maintenance and interagency cooperation are being gutted."
Public lands are heart of Teton County — and they’re under threat

this is not okay. this needs to be fought tooth-and-nail. National Monuments are how we protect places until they can be made into national parks, or units which are too small or remote for a NP. they're also how we can protect sections of OGA lands like the Misty Fjords NM in Tongass.

ILL/ILB library staff are the real heroes of basically all research, especially humanities research.

Just insane to watch us, as a society, actively opting to let decades of knowledge and progress rot, not out of poverty, but out of a mix of apathy and malice.
Uhhh our whole interlibrary loan department got laid off yesterday so if you're waiting for something from us.... it might be a minute.

If you burn down a forest, you don't miss out on lumber for just that season. You have to replant all the trees, nurture them, and wait for them to grow.

The science and research budget cuts happening now are wanton, senseless arson. Recovery, if it ever happens, will take generations.

How bad will it be? Catastrophic.

Proposed cuts to #NSF, #NIH, and #NASA will set the US R&D landscape back 25 yrs+, cause economic and job loss now, and undermine innovations to come.

But, this is the WH's *proposed* budget.

Speak up now before it is too late.
