These raised scales are what concerns me, but clouded or damaged eyes could be a sign of fungal infection too.

another shot of my friendly neighborhood gophersnake while I deal with my laptop acting up. Anyone know why technology always waits for things to be time-sensitive and crucial to start crashing?

Trump, his cabinet, and his billionaire friends want to destroy the ESA in order to allow reckless resource extraction like logging and mining. Following the blueprint given by Project 2025, this administration plans to target species protected under Section 10(j), such as the California condor.

Went out to double check and yep, it’s worth fighting for. Love your public lands by protecting them. Fight back.

There is currently Too Much Happening so I am going to leave these photos here and go take care of my brain. The planet is worth fighting for! Our public lands matter so much! Don’t give up!

Speckled rattlesnake, Southern California, 2021. I’m still obsessed with the colors in the snake and the rock, and beyond grateful for days like this: watching snakes be snakes in special places. #herps #wildlife #wildlifephotography

Another find from a day of lizard trapping: a broody nighthawk on her clutch. I unfortunately spooked her as I approached a trap array and took a quick egg pic before retreating. Later, I was able to use a telephoto lens to get shots of mom from a distance. #birds #wildlife #wildlifephotography

On a brisk morning trapping lizards in the Sonoran Desert, I enjoyed a few minutes of peace with a pair of Mojave rattlesnakes catching the first rays of the morning under the creosote bushes. Looking forward to spring and snakes 🌱🐍 #addHerper

Phone pics of two lizard species found in the AZ Strip: long-nosed leopard lizard and a Great Basin collared lizard. I’m going to be adding lots of my wildlife photos over the next few weeks as I transition over to this platform. Stay tuned!

It’s always a treat to cross paths with a wild tortoise. This guy was grazing on roadside vegetation in the Mojave National Preserve last spring, and was exceptionally unbothered by the paparazzi (me). An icon.

Hi all! I’m Annika, a wildlife biologist and naturalist. I’ve worked with rattlesnakes, lizards, vultures, amphibians, and all sorts of other critters. Looking forward to sharing my photography and connecting with likeminded folks on a new platform. #wildlife #conservation #science #addBirder
