Good morning. I'd like to invite anyone who is interested to make a small gesture of kindness today. It's up to you to decide what that can be. The key is for you to act on the idea. With so much out of our control, we can choose how to be with each other today and every day.

Yes! Such a great book full of ideas perfect for days like this!

I can’t blame them! How annoying to watch 43 minutes of a different movie in each class and never see the end of them anyway!
December 18, 2025 at 5:48 PM
Hot take: don’t play a movie for students before break. It’s boring to watch a movie in every class and you will just be annoyed that kids don’t seem interested/excited to watch it!

Do something fun but structured instead. I promise, it will be easier to manage before break behavior!
I made it to Winter Break! Whew!

Ultimate Tic Tac Toe was a hit in all of my classes today. Loved having something mathy and fun to send us off to break. Plus, a few kids said they wanted to play with their family over break! 🥰

This isn’t enforcement. This is harassment.

They’ve grabbed people off the street for how they look, separated families, and scarred communities with masked agents with guns.

I encourage everyone to do as they have — peacefully protect your neighborhoods and neighbors.
Border Patrol Boss Greg Bovino Back In Chicago As Agents Target Southwest Side
Bovino returned with around 200 agents and descended on the Southwest Side Tuesday, where organizers said around 15 people were arrested. "It's going to be a merry Christmas in Chicago," Bovino told B...

Alert from Berwyn Cicero Rapid Response warning residents if they are working outside today. Being outside working is a risk when federal agents are scouring nhoods grabbing those in public. The msg is always remove yourself from public life or be at risk.

Exactly. 🙌🏻
It is an acceptable risk that some people who don’t “deserve” it accidentally get help, if it means everyone who needs it is guaranteed to get help.

Oh, wow. I hope so too! Just having a convo around grading practices lately and, whew, some wild takes were shared!

This game looks fun. Going to try with my kids!

Learning coins is tough in the world where we don’t use coins much anymore! (Gentle reminder: let’s not blame the children for struggling to learn coins. They are living in the world *adults* made!)

Thanks @denisegaskins.com for your game idea! 😀

Happy “Dragons Love Tacos” party day, to those that celebrate. 🌮

The book was in the bedtime rotation for a while and we noticed there was an actual date revealed for the party. I the date got addento our family calendar. 😂
Ordered tacos for dinner tonight from a local taco place! 🎉 🐉 🌮

I went to a school today. Principal was like, “do you have our school sweatshirt?”
I’m like, “no, but that’s okay but also… would love one!”

Listen, there’s a lot going on in schools. Lots of priorities and things taking our time and energy. But making people feel included? Priceless! ❤️

Great article! It addresses some issues facing many teachers I work with. I’m going to use the article with teachers in a PD this week! 😊

Always feels rejuvenating to reconnect with my mathy friends from near and far at math conferences.

Maybe it was a 5 minute hello in passing or a longer time hanging out over a meal or drink. Either way, I loved seeing you friends! 🥰

My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."
They Came for Our Neighbors. We Showed Up.
Before long, there were dozens, and then hundreds of people in the streets, watching and responding.

Despite the ongoing horrors, protesters have been met with pretty much non-stop honks of support from drivers and truckers passing by this morning.

Appreciate this thread detailing what is happening at the detention facility near me.

Trying to stay informed, protect my neighbors, stay vigilant, support local Latino owned businesses, be ready with my phone to record.
In Broadview, IL this morning outside the Chicago area ICE detention center—

Just rolled up, immediately saw ISP/CCSO arresting a protester w/ a guitar (he appears to be in good spirits over it).

ICE vehicles have been coming and going, including a large bus driven by a masked agent seen earlier.

I mean, I usually create something and try it out a few places. Then reuse it. So when I’m in those iterations, I’d love feedback.

Also, would love just to hear your ideas of what makes for good slides. I tend to go text light and talk heavy. Meaning my slides don’t really “say” much.

Literally zip-tied *children*

The cruelty is the point.
“Fuck them kids.”

That’s literally what an ICE agent said when ICE, the FBI et al. raided an apartment in Chicago, including with a Blackhawk helicopter, separated children from their parents, and zip-tied them to each other.
