Long division algorithm in 6th grade! Operations with rational numbers in 7th grade!
Great article! It addresses some issues facing many teachers I work with. I’m going to use the article with teachers in a PD this week! 😊

Always feels rejuvenating to reconnect with my mathy friends from near and far at math conferences.

Maybe it was a 5 minute hello in passing or a longer time hanging out over a meal or drink. Either way, I loved seeing you friends! 🥰

My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."
They Came for Our Neighbors. We Showed Up.
Before long, there were dozens, and then hundreds of people in the streets, watching and responding.

Despite the ongoing horrors, protesters have been met with pretty much non-stop honks of support from drivers and truckers passing by this morning.
Appreciate this thread detailing what is happening at the detention facility near me.

Trying to stay informed, protect my neighbors, stay vigilant, support local Latino owned businesses, be ready with my phone to record.
In Broadview, IL this morning outside the Chicago area ICE detention center—

Just rolled up, immediately saw ISP/CCSO arresting a protester w/ a guitar (he appears to be in good spirits over it).

ICE vehicles have been coming and going, including a large bus driven by a masked agent seen earlier.
I mean, I usually create something and try it out a few places. Then reuse it. So when I’m in those iterations, I’d love feedback.

Also, would love just to hear your ideas of what makes for good slides. I tend to go text light and talk heavy. Meaning my slides don’t really “say” much.
Hahahaha. Too relatable.
Here’s the details!

Literally zip-tied *children*

The cruelty is the point.
“Fuck them kids.”

That’s literally what an ICE agent said when ICE, the FBI et al. raided an apartment in Chicago, including with a Blackhawk helicopter, separated children from their parents, and zip-tied them to each other.

Thanks Julie. Helpful (to my mental health, especially) to hear that others feel the same. 💙

I’ve been reading up on immigrants rights. I also want to know so I can video/narrate any interactions because 🧊 is not necessarily following the law.

Regardless of your immigration status, you have guaranteed rights under the Constitution. Learn more here about your rights as an immigrant, and how to express them.

And some people claim this is what they want?! More than once I’ve seen comments in my community, “this is what I voted for!” The cruelty is gross.

It’s unbelievable, unbearable, and inhumane.
The amount of anger I feel about my neighbors in the Chicagoland area being harassed, terrorized, and abducted by 🧊. 😡

I am ready to video and literally on guard for every dark SUV or out-of-state plates I see in my neighborhood or where I’m working in schools. This is terrible.
I did! (I didn’t totally come up with it on my own. I know I saw something similar in a Desmos activity once. I also think there is a book or something called “Dear Math”)

My Ss this semester (preservice secondary math) graphed their math experience.

We learned:
It’s important to connect with our own experience as we think about teaching others, T we have makes an impact on how we feel about a class, we like listening to K-pop Demon Hunters soundtrack when we work 😊
Will be so great to meet in real life! 🤩
Tbh, the app could be easier to navigate but it’s ok. That why I usually have to look at the online program too.
For speakers, I think you can log into “speaker ready room” and find out your room and room capacity. Not sure there ante really any other guidelines.
For program, I usually look at it online and then also download the app where I can click on things I’m interested in and make my schedule.
