A9 I like the idea of students writing a note to their future self. I tell students that these reflections are their "desk top google cheats" We write these in our "interactive notebooks" Students know these are thier tools they need to write, illustrate, communicate to themselves #elemMathChat

Join #ElemMathChat on 2/5/25 at 8 pm CST / 9 pm EST with Kim Rimbey @kimrimbey.bsky.social We will explore Seeing the Math You Teach and how strong visuals help students truly see and understand the math. Because when YOU see it, THEY do too.

A8 Everything that happens in a classroom must be intentionally taught and then practiced. Go slow, teach and practice, don't try to do too much too soon. Once one or 2 have been introduced/mastered, add another. Plan for chaos in exploration Routines Rule! #ElemMathChat

A7 I REALLY think a great curriculum embed practice tasks that also spiral in previously learned skills. Yes, it is important because foundations build great buildings! I LOVE @openupresources.bsky.social and @illustrativemath for this very reason! #ElemMathChat

A6 I do math talk Mondays. Before we played this game I would do a quick review of some of the strategies students have shared in solving - decomposing, double/half..... I would write these on the white board for referencing as a way to support and differentiate. #ElemMathChat

A5 the worksheet is busy work. LOL! The strike out is fun and students have to justify their reasoning! #ElemMathChat
Q5 What is the goal of the worksheet? What is the goal of the game? What features in the game might help develop conceptual understanding or challenge students' thinking? #elemmathchat

A4 these practices are practicing the same skill. The one with the grid helps students "see" the product in the arrays. This one also seems like and individual practice. The other is a more than one person practice and it seems students may have some fluency iwth multiples of 3. #ElemMathChat

A3 The layout alone makes this so much better. It gives the message, here is a place for you to figure out the math however you need to- draw a picture, make an array........ plus the rolling of the dice - the movement and time allowed makes this much more inviting and engaging! #ElemMathChat

A2 I absolutly do not like worksheets. They are usually naked number problems that remove the math from the application. They are about answer getting and nothing fun about math!!!!!!!!!! Usually there are way to many problems. I don't want to do them. Why would I make kids do them? #ElemMathChat

A1 I have to admit, that my "post lesson" maybe different than most. My "lesson" is the whole group notice/wonder discussion part and tehn the post-lesson is students collaborating, problem solving & doing all of the smps to practice. Most of my indiv. practice is applying the lesson #ElemMathChat
