For no particular reason, let's talk about how good Moana 2016 is, how it plays with the princess formula in a great way, and how Moana's character arc is so fantastic it heals the world

Misogyny is when a female character has to somehow “earn” her power, but a male character doesn’t…

My absolute favorite aspect of the recent frankenstein movies has been making the brides redheads

Not only bc I, too, am a redhead, but because it amends almost a century of incorrect pop culture references by getting back to the correct hair color of the original

The main reason this is a problem is because being "good at math" has often meant being good at following esoteric directions without question instead of developing creative problem solving skills

Which makes the subject seem in opposition to creativity and something only a select few can do
obviously there’s nothing wrong with being good at math, and I also don’t believe that studying the humanities is some sort of magic anti-evil antidote, but our society has become truly pathologically unbalanced with how much Good At Math is valued over everything else
terminal Math Brain truly is a cancer that is eating the world

paul, this is a tweet about silicon valley failing to recognize scifi as being social critique and assuming they were prescriptions for what future society should look like rather than amplifications of social issues present at time of writing.

hope this helps!
"Torment Nexus" comes from this tweet and is often used now to describe the kind of negative experiences you can have with social networks, like getting dogpiled or harassed or being pushed into conflict

Super thrilled to see all the new lists about the best adaptations of Frankenstein coming out

But why is Lisa Frankenstein 💋 never mentioned? It's easily one of the best adaptations of the original story ❤️‍🩹 and its themes, as I dig into in this video

has got to be the most ludicrous way you can phrase it

Remember when Reylos wrote a whole exposé on far-right infiltration in fandoms, got literally doxxed over it (private info leaked into an extremist forum that was linked to a real mass shooting), and the wider fandom left them to fend for themselves? Good times

[whispers] and if I said this is bc that side of the fandom at large infantilizes Rey, what then
To quote @palesspareshirt.bsky.social

"People fundamentally don't understand Rey is a freak"

Because a lot of discourse comes from this. Much like how everyone ran with emo Kylo post TFA, she became uwu cinnamon roll. But she's not. She's a goblin that hungers for bread and Ben.

No one's ever really gone - join me as we go through how redemption has ALWAYS been part of Star Wars, how Ben Solo follows the most famous redemption arc ever written, and why his death is the worst possible outcome

It’s literally been ten years, I’m sorry but I just do not remotely care what anyone still salty about Kylo/Ben has to say at this point.

💯 this

I'm so sick of the "woke" accusations of 'how you could you like THAT character when another from a more marginalized group exists??'

Like, first of all, it's called the hunt FOR Ben - someone else has to be the main characters hunting him, aka Finn and Rey ideally
This is such a weird framing when A LOT of the same people who think The Hunt For Ben Solo sounds cool have been in trenches BEGGING for Finn's return for years now.

Wild how fans that like Ben Solo also like other ST characters cause we want more projects with those characters. Shocking, I know.
So, people really want a “somehow Kylo Ren returned” movie before a Finn movie. JFC….

I say this as a video essayist - you need to develop your own perspective

Both bc experiencing art is kinda the point but also so you know when those videos are full of shit
please watch movies and read books and play games and look at art, please view it with your own eyes through a lens you made yourself and not just through video essayists and ending explained videos please im begging you

Soooo funny that they have the banner with the elevation clearly visible

When my brother visited from sea level, he'd always pick up some oxygen in a can (which you can find in most stores in the front range) to help adjust
cannot even process this
