No serious climate change discussions can take place w/o dismantling the beast called the US military. Research shows it is one of the largest climate polluters in history w/an enormous carbon footprint. It must be confronted in order to have a substantial effect on battling global warming. Or burn

Nine months ago I put most of my hope in major institutions continuing to hold fascism in check, but had little expectation that regular people with little to no power would step up and put themselves at risk.

I had it exactly backward.
signs like these are up all over Chicago cafes and storefronts (here, cafes in Brighton Park and Back of the Yards) warning ICE not to enter without a judicial warrant

This morning, I was hit in the face by a baton.

I’m going to have a pretty gnarly bruise but we need to remember why this is happening: Trump and ICE are rounding up our neighbors, treating them as subhuman, and shipping them off to labor camps in foreign countries. It has to end.

Hi, I'm the ProPublica reporter who's been tracking an unusual stat: U.S. citizens grabbed by immigration agents.

I did it because the government isn’t.

This is what I found.

A federal judge agreed: Trump’s fossil fuel orders are harming young people and worsening the climate crisis. But he said his hands were tied. The Lighthiser v. Trump youth are appealing –because the Constitution must protect their lives before it projects corporate profits.

This is so true and I deeply appreciate the point. And, they were kicked out of school, arrested, and worse. The most courageous and principled people in our country are the students who demonstrated for a ceasefire.
I can’t help but think today about how many young people were savaged on social media, branded as anti-semites and abandoned by their schools for daring to call for a ceasefire. I remember saying that it was the first time I can remember that calling for ceasefire was regarded as a hostile demand.

Press needs to stop repeating govt euphemism of “clearing homeless camps.” I’ve witnessed it in other cities: massive destruction of personal property. Not just bedrolls & tents; family photos, Bibles, meds. Times I’ve seen it people weren’t even given option to move their things.

I loved the 1984 Olympics, but that was then, and this is now. Then, I loved way the city threw its arms around athletes and arts and the global community. The bars were hopping!

But this is now. I beg the international community to: do NOT come to LA. Do not sacrifice LA to Trumps grandiosity.
