While it is true that oppression can reinforce and compound each other, they are born out of material relations shaped by capitalism and the economic exploitation that is at the heart of capitalist society.

Capitalism used racism to justify plunder, conquest and slavery, but as Karl Marx pointed out, it also used racism to divide and rule--to pit one section of the working class against another and thereby blunt class consciousness.
