If you have tenure at Texas A&M and aren't maliciously emailing the president a dozen times every day to ask if you can say this or you can say that, then what's the point in having tenure?

I write messages to the dead and the not yet living.

This is a good week to set something down on paper for those who will read it later or by passing like a wind over the pages.

To catch you up, Indiana University’s student newspaper reported:
• It was told to print no news in its homecoming edition, set to come out Thursday.
• It refused.
• The director of student media was fired.
• Hours later, IU cut all print editions of the paper, including Thursday’s issue.
UPDATE: More at Indiana University, with all IDS print being cut.

The university chancellor claims “the campus is completing the shift from print to digital effective this week” — despite the fight earlier this week having been over a print Homecoming edition. www.idsnews.com/article/2025...

Assuming CDC formally adopts ACIP's recommendations, CVS tells me it will provide Covid vaccines without a prescription in all 50 states and won't require even self-attestation of a qualifying condition — "it’s up to the individual patient."

No confirmation from Walgreens or Walmart yet.
I have reached out to CVS, Walgreens and Walmart to ask how they will apply these recommendations to people seeking vaccines at their pharmacies. I cannot provide any info on how this will affect your ability to get a vaccine right now, because I don't know yet.

This is a fascinating, disturbing, but also moving story, about how AI is being used to monetize death and grief.

Maybe there could be some kind of a "certified human" stamp and you could just search for that and automatically factor out AI

At this point, there is no guarantee what we'll do (if anything), but we want to keep our options open by collecting names. If you have any further questions, feel free to email me. We are primarily looking for Ph.D. scientists at universities or government labs in appropriate fields. I realize that this will exclude some qualified people and I apologize, but we felt this was necessary for a variety of reasons.
