In the 80+ years since we ushered in the age of the nuclear bomb, what is the longest our planet has gone without a nuclear explosion? Answer: 8 years, 4 Months. We just crossed that milestone, which now places us in the longest hiatus so far. Long may it continue.

A supposed benefit of #GMO crops is a reduction in insecticide use on corn. In reality, corn seeds engineered to kill certain insect pests—AKA Bt corn—have been treated with #neonics, which harm crucial pollinator species, the wider environment and possibly even humans. phys.org/news/2026-01...
Nearly every corn seed planted in Colorado is covered in insecticide: Lawmakers may restrict the chemical
Colorado farmers plant tens of millions of corn seeds every year, nearly every one of them covered in a thin layer of insecticide.

🚨 TODAY: We’re in Parliament challenging a pharma deal with the US that could cost the NHS BILLIONS.

This deal was signed behind closed doors, without public debate or a vote in Parliament.

It must be scrapped.

Elephants! What a lovely end to the working day. We collected our last hydrophone and made the last measurements upstream, and then on the way back SO MANY elephants had come down to the river to cool off. Do listen with the sound on - there's proper trumpetting. 🐘🐘🐘🐘

Research has found that displaying an eye symbol on buildings acts as a deterrent to crime because people unconsciously feel they are being watched.

Could this prevent crimes against wildlife, too? Might the image of a bird's eye discourage hunting and poisoning? Where would such signs be placed?

Springsteen just released an anti-ICE anthem that cuts to the core of our collective humanity.

"We'll take our stand for our land and the stranger in our midst..."

Each of us is here because someone stood up for us when we were strangers.

Are we ready to reciprocate?

Saw a film on 90s tv in which a journalist and a scientist link up to learn why a factory produces HUGE amounts of #CO₂, but nothing else besides. Turns out aliens own the facory and are (their equivalent of) terraforming Earth for future habitation.

I often think of it when I see planet abuse.

Another day, another Telegraph anti-net-zero headline. No other anti wind/green/EV stories on the front page, so I'm guessing they're inside. The gist seems to be that migrating from one technology to another will (shockingly) reduce jobs in the former technology. No mention of any new energy jobs.🤔

Forever chemicals are so long-lasting + difficult to remove that very high levels can mean some water just is no longer usable as a drinking water source. With so much pressure on water resources, we cannot afford to let PFAS pollution build.
