We had a touch of color that made it through our cloudy skies last night

An aurora rising just enough to stain the darkness with color before slipping back into the sky.

A heavy night sky spreads across the frame, layered with dark, unsettled clouds. Yet along the horizon, the darkness breaks—not with dawn, but with the low, smoldering glow of the aurora. Its colors rise in muted bands of orange, rose, and ember-gold, soft but unmistakably alive, as if the horizon itself were quietly pulsing with celestial fire. The auroral light seeps upward, brushing the underside of the cloud deck and catching in soft, shifting streaks. The clouds glow faintly where the aurora touches them, their shapes outlined in a subtle, otherworldly radiance. Far above, a few small stars pierce the murk—cold, steady points against the restless sky.

Scattered stones sit staring, an awestruck audience. The sun is done her daily dance, ripe with radiance. Shadows crawl along the sand, as the sun lays down her head. Sending sunbeams to each stone, to kiss them before bed. The ocean waves, as it makes its way, to tuck the shoreline in. They all sit back, as day turns to black, and the celestial dance can begin.
