The American right does not defend slavery because progressives say it was bad. They defend slavery because racial hierarchy has been an important and increasingly explicit component of their ideology for 70 years. Read a fucking book.

Please read this long but important thread from an immigration defense attorney.

If this administration is permitted to scale its current abuse, neglect, and inhumane treatment of immigrants to the breadth and scope for which they’re currently planning, we’ll all be witness to mass atrocities.
I don’t really know what I expect in posting this, but maybe some people see it and can learn from it.

I’ll call it “lessons from an unwilling immigration attorney.”

the "it's impossible to have a conversation about AI right now" folks need to grok that a huge volume of that furor is entirely justified rage at the fact tech oligarchs purchased an automated murder autocracy; rage that's good and useful and deserves a generous berth in the months and years to come

I like what she's saying, but she needs a speech writing to dumb this down more if she wants it to spread and be effective
AOC: "I think we have to recognize that we are in a new day and in a new time. But that does not mean that the majority of Americans are ready to walk away from a rules-based order, and that we're ready to walk away from our commitment to democracy."

Of course the exception to this rule is porn, because everyone already knows it's fake and doesn't care.
I think businesses are underestimating how little people will care about any kind of media or communication once no one can tell if things are fake
it's not the worst thing AI is doing but: i love cat videos so much and it's so annoying that people are posting ai cat videos now

Everyone who votes Republican wants people to suffer from preventable illnesses
In terms of what cures are being lost:

- Epstein-Barr virus is perhaps the major trigger for multiple sclerosis
- herpes simplex virus causes cold sores, genital herpes, infections in babies, deadly meningitis
- shingles virus causes an intensely painful disease

I do not wish to be mean, but if I hear you in the year 2026 claiming that Elon Musk "saved free speech" from "leftist censors" I am going to question your judgment on pretty much everything else, because you do not live in reality.

It's weird, but I don't think we should be dismissive of it. Mining is a dangerous and polluting business here on earth. The Moon would be a great base of operations for mining if we can overcome the issues with living and working there.

Justice is ICE being held accountable for murdering Americans.

this is why its super important for democratic politicians and liberals to *make noise* about things. most people do not follow politics, certainly not like we junkies do. when you make a ton of noise about stuff it bleeds over into normie world and shapes opinions.
New poll: In 2024, low-engagement voters went for Trump over Harris by 11 percentage points. But now they disapprove of the way he's handling the presidency by 13. They have moved 25 points against Trump — 2x as large as the shift for high-knowledge voters www.gelliottmorris.com/p/trump-lost...
Trump has lost the voters who weren’t paying attention in 2024
The least-engaged Americans have swung 25 points against him since 2024 — about twice the shift among everyone else. Trump has flattened the engagement gap.

The fact that some democratic governors are going to visit Trump at the White House despite all that has happened tells you a lot about the rot at the root of the party. It isn’t even about Trump being petty and inviting only Republicans. The man is a monster who literally murders Americans.

The Liberal Case for Public Power
When power is treated as a public good, it becomes cheaper, more reliable, and better positioned to meet the challenges of the future than privately held electrical utilities have ever demonstrated.
