I 100% agree with this, and on a related note, I really want to build an atproto implementation of @octopus-ac.bsky.social, because it would be the best thing.

Science Must Decentralize
Knowledge production doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Every great scientific breakthrough is built on prior work, and an ongoing exchange with peers in the field. That’s why we need to address the threat

I wish I had internalised this two years ago but it was a different world and a different game. I'm just grateful I've moved away from this all or nothing mindset now
I will say this: a lot of new folks are clinging to a nostalgia for ‘getting a publisher’ as a marker of validation, of being a ‘real game’.
And I’m here to tell you that’s bollocks. They need you more than you need them. If they can provide a service, awesome, but you hold the means of production.

This seems notable - on current data, the 90 homicides recorded by the Metropolitan Police in the year to August 2025 is the lowest 12-month total since the monthly data started in 2003. #crimestats

Okay, so what you're going to do is get some friends together. They don't all have to be radical leftists but they do at least need to believe that borders are fake. They also need to think that the sentiment of NASA's Voyager record is the coolest thing ever but that's easy because who doesn't?
