This month's Playing Politics newsletter (paywalled) explores three stories:

- Roblox's rumble down under
- Discord's age verification roll-out
- The Epstein files and their overlap with the video game world.

IMPORTANT

The court has not yet formally ordered the quashing of the provision, and so it still remains in force pending an Order - see highlighted text.

So provision remains in force.

Suspect government may seek urgent appeal before Order made.

Significant that the High Court ruling is still, in places, quite damning of Palestine Action. It emphatically rejects that the group is engaged in "civil disobediance", for example.

It just finds (compellingly) that proscription was still wrong, despite that.

This week's @vgim.bsky.social, sponsored by k-ID, was a simple one.

I interviewed @mackeza.bsky.social to discuss Super Nintendo, her outstanding book about the Big N. And it was, unsurprisingly, a great chat.

Ironic, as this was the magazine that referred to Pokémon as a "pestilential Ponzi scheme" in 1999, characterising its creator Satoshi Tajiri as a literal monster "His eyes are bloodshot; dark circles ripple beneath them... His monsters are a child's predelictions." He never gave another interview.

Absolutely adored @alansiegella.bsky.social’s Stupid TV, Be More Funny.

A forensically funny account of how The Simpsons transformed television, which successfully puts the people who made it right at the heart of the story.

I’m visiting the Wes Anderson exhibition at London’s Design Museum and reflecting on the obsessiveness of the design of his ephemera.

It’s meticulous work that stands in absolute contrast to the idea that generative AI should be used to make background items. Totally the wrong approach!

Y'know, someone could make this kind of thing into a great game about being a stuntman working on an action movie
Usually, video game trailers that show gameplay show successful gameplay, because presumably that's what sells

But, I guess to tamp down on depictions of gory violence, the Resident Evil Requiem footage in today's Nintendo Direct showed some missed attacks.

Frankly, it made it feel more authentic

I have zero bandwidth to develop the idea, but the last decade has given rise to a gulliblity style, where a source’s statement is treated as the story regardless of whether it’s true or plausible. It creates stories that are technically true but functionally misinformation. You see it everywhere.
