When people ask me how I'm doing while I'm writing newsletters, doing consulting work, preparing for more book edits, and trying to get work for 2026 confirmed, all at the end of the longest year ever that SOMEHOW has seven weeks to run

Dear The Premier League,

Idrissa Gueye’s white leggings makes it look like he’s wearing trousers while playing football.

Please ban him from wearing them again.

I am not a crackpot.

My credit card has been blocked. Fortunately, NatWest has sprung into action to resolve the problem not very urgently

I've had a busy, but brilliant week. Hosted the Green Games Summit, pitched my book to the publishing trade at a "Big Ideas" showcase, talked politics in games with The Game Business, and made it along to the AI and Games Conference.

I am feeling so grateful to be doing what I'm doing 🙏

Inspiring day hosting the Green Games Summit, which is all about deploying games for the good of the climate.

So good to hear from PlayStation, Supercell, University of Oxford and even an actual real life explorer about the potential for games to meaningfully change minds (and behaviours)

I’m trying to be more open about the ups and downs of life lately.

So, I’m sharing a little thing a friend popped to me in the post a couple of weeks ago just in case it’s handy for you to read too.

Happy Halloween everyone. I celebrated last night by dressing up as Timothee Chalamet dressed as Bob Dylan.

One person shouted “hey DYLAN” at me in the street. It made my night.

In this week’s VGIM, sponsored by Testronic, I look at the appropriation of games aesthetics by the White House and how it marks an escalation in the populist right’s co-option of video games culture for its own political ends.

Prepping a talk for next week to introduce me to an audience of people who don't know me.

I think the first slide gets the main point across.

For example, Aussie dark pattern researchers claimed free to play games were a more dangerous dark pattern than skin betting.

For context, skin betting has long been associated with actual crime like money laundering compared to say, I dunno, someone going ape on Candy Crush Saga.

But if you say yes to more regulation or more enforcement of existing rules, you're shown a hidden follow-up question that allows you to quickly tick off a load of pre-defined concerns and whack in a lengthy plain text answer if you have something else to say.
