Increasingly feeling this. And it's not only about using a 🤖to "do the reading for you" (as if). It's about citing the same way you make water available by opening a fire whose. Also, I love "slow research" as a response to this and other pressures, but research *is* slow. To each their own I guess.
I like reading. One of the reasons I entered this profession was because it allows me to read and call it work. When I hear about fellow academics’ optimised knowledge consumption workflows, it makes me feel a little sad.

Fortunately, in the humanities you should get way fewer fictional citations invented by so-called AI if what you do is search, read, learn from, and work off the texts, instead of padding up lists of secondary sources and passing them as material you have otherwise not read

Sheffield merely the latest university to claim that legally withdrawing your labour should actually be postponing your labour, and punishing people further. Here’s how strikes work:
1. You legally stop working for a period of time. You don’t get paid.
2. Win or lose you go back to work.
Well that’s me locked out. No pay for the foreseeable future, all because I refuse to reschedule lost teaching, for which I have already lost pay as part of the strike. Please donate to support @sheffielducu.bsky.social members like me at www.gofundme.com/f/heubvb-sup...

3. You don’t reschedule what you missed: that’s not striking, it’s rescheduling.

Why none of this has gone to court yet I just don’t know.
