If I was a judge and a DOJ lawyer filed a brief saying "yes, we mistakenly shipped someone with a right to be here to a foreign gulag but you have no power to order us to bring him back" I'd put that lawyer in jail until that person was brought back.

Also, regardless of the legalities, at 200% you get professional smuggling. Frankly, at the rate things are going I expect customs to break down completely and smuggling to become rampant.
25% is like annoying but you might as well just pay, at 200% you get lawyers thinking up shit like “well there’s no tariff on wood boxes so if you buy this $10,000 crate we’ll throw in 12 bottles of Lafite for free”

PEACE THROUGH SUPERIOR FIREPOWER
if you ask a liberal what their military policy is they'll say "we should cut the defense budget." if you ask a liberal what kind of military we ought to have they'll look at you blankly. i don't say this with any joy. it's a problem we need to confront!
Oy. One of the consistent failures of the left I'm seeing is the failure to understand that our efforts to create a peaceful world have failed and we now need the military again, damn it.

BTW, this "peace at any price" propaganda used to be Soviet.

Our generation will no longer receive the dividends of peace. It is up to us to ensure that our children reap the rewards of our commitments tomorrow. So we will face the future together.

Long live the Republic.

A materials conference I’m going to usually has 25% government employees from NASA, NIST, DOE, NRL, AFRL, ARL, etc. attending. They’ve paid the registration fees, bought the flights, done the research, planned to join committee lunches. None of them are coming due to DOGE’s “efficiency” measures.

one thing I've become very convinced of is the need for the civil service to do waaayyyy more propaganda. like you should know about how NOAA makes the weather app on your phone work. you should know that Uncle Sam runs GPS. you should know how impressive the US census data collection effort is, etc

Everytime Canadian tariffs are about to get implemented, I go get Canadian maple syrup from my local trader joes. I’m about to go buy 3 bottles because this time seems like the last time.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

Macron says he is ready to "open the discussion" on European nuclear deterrence. -Le Monde.

This is the mess that Trump is sowing, a weak America will cause Europe to fill the void. That void will be filled by a nuclear deterrent.

DOGE recommended firing workers at:

-FDA, which oversees Neuralink

-FAA, which oversees SpaceX

-USAID, which probed Starlink

-CFPB, which oversees Tesla's financing arm and a potential payment platform on X.

"Conflict of interest" is a severe understatement.

This is just sheer brazen criminality by DOJ. Adams gets federal corruption charges dropped not because there isn’t overwhelming evidence, but because he agrees to help Homan round up migrants. And Homan says the charges will be refiled if Adams doesn’t “come through.”

hard to overemphasize how consistent it is that scifi can imagine the end of all physical constants more easily than it can imagine the end of patriarchy
This movie has the exact same vibe as sci-fi from the mid-century featuring Martian colony ships and interstellar spacecraft where all the women aboard are still nurses and secretaries.

Just in case you wanted more evidence that these ghouls don’t even believe the garbage they spew, a high intensity laser-plasma experiments by a straight white guy counts as “woke DEI”

📌I was the managing editor at Stars and Stripes and can tell you that Pete Hegseth is the first SecDef I am aware of to be openly booed by military families on a military base.

📌This is the most significant pushback I have seen to this administration's racist, hostile initiatives.
Hegseth’s rough start: Pentagon chief faces protest at U.S. base abroad
The question isn’t why the defense secretary faced pushback at U.S. European Command headquarters; the question is whether he’ll see more protests soon.
