Hey, this is kinda similar to what I’m working on. I’m just on the materials side tho, no application as of yet.

How would providing F-16s and ATACMS to Ukraine on the provision that they only target Russians on Ukrainian soil be risky for NATO?
April 30, 2025 at 12:33 AM
Or some in Western governments were cowards/had unwarranted empathy for the Russia/didn’t feel like dedicating that much energy to helping Ukraine and dealing with Russian fallout.
April 30, 2025 at 12:11 AM
I don’t believe Russia would’ve done anything meaningful if we’d given F-16s a year in. Or even if Russia would’ve done anything if ATACMS had been used by Ukraine on Russian targets in Ukraine.

We should’ve been pushing Russia’s comfort zone and calling their bluff rather than what we did.
April 30, 2025 at 12:10 AM
Instead of continually pushing stronger support careful not to overstep Russia’s red lines we should’ve been putting our own red lines. We’re the more powerful player and we should be dictating the red lines, not Russia.

I agree that Ukraine might not have been worth fighting a war over. However, the “early phase” ended basically 6 months in. Once the Bucha massacre came out it should’ve been clear Russia needed to lose and lose fast. That didn’t happen.
April 30, 2025 at 12:07 AM
Oh, ok. I see now. Do you agree that the US is wrong to not fully support Ukraine then?
April 29, 2025 at 11:07 PM
And my question wasn’t about why the US isn’t letting Ukraine use ATACMS/Stormshadow deep into Russia but why they weren’t provided earlier. They would’ve been even more useful earlier in the war even without using them on deep Russian targets.
April 29, 2025 at 9:40 PM
Considering both the US and Russia signed the Budapest Memorandum there’s no reason to not give Ukraine the ability to strike deep into Russia with NATO arms. That is what we agreed to.

As for F-16s, they’re super useful to shoot down drones/cruise missiles and deter Russian glide bomb attacks.
April 29, 2025 at 9:38 PM
Why weren’t ATACMS provided earlier? F-16s? Why was Stormshadow blocked for awhile? Why is Taurus being blocked now?
April 29, 2025 at 6:42 PM
It’s one example where a supply of easily transferrable equipment with few repercussions was not transferred for no good reason and probably cost many Ukrainian lives.

I never said US support for Ukraine wasn’t substantial or vital from Ukraine’s POV. From a US POV though, the support was slim.
April 29, 2025 at 6:41 PM
? You mean the cold war? Where we actively engaged in sabotage of Soviet-backed regimes across the world?

Relative to what we had to offer and relative to our GDP, we did not. We sent them 31 Abrams. We have over 400 former USMC tanks we could’ve sent over with no effect to readiness.
April 29, 2025 at 4:04 PM
Torn between wanting to still be able to buy cheap goods and really wanting American voters to realize the shit they’re in. Hopefully this will wake them up.
April 29, 2025 at 3:31 AM
Going to war after a world war where we allied with the soviets and both sides were exhausted vs providing every weapon we could spare without impacting readiness to Ukraine are not really the same.

I haven’t watched the Agency all the way through but I do not have fond memories of “Le Bureau.” What makes the French version better?
April 29, 2025 at 3:10 AM
I haven’t watched the Agency to the end but “Le Bureau” was not good after season 3 or so. The protagonist gets so depressing to watch.
April 29, 2025 at 3:08 AM
I only watched the 1st episode because it felt like a ripoff of the french show “Le Bureau” but this doesn’t sound like “Le Bureau” at all.
April 29, 2025 at 3:05 AM
So what did you think was being referred to?
March 16, 2025 at 12:30 AM
Population decline is an exponential damage over time effect and an ongoing domestic crisis for China.
March 15, 2025 at 6:03 PM
My only hope is my DOD funded research gives me an exemption from the draft but considering the “spec-ops best ops” vibes from the admin not sure they’ll care.
March 13, 2025 at 3:28 PM
Right but this is not quite the reality since Europe has like 5x the population and 10x the GDP as well as nuclear weapons and as many tanks and artillery as Russia. So Mearsheimer would just have an incorrect assessment or is basing strength off some weird factors.
March 11, 2025 at 6:56 PM
Even in a theoretical realist sense, wouldn’t Europe have a sphere of influence which extends to Ukraine? Mearsheimer is essentially saying that Europe should just capitulate its influence to Russia for no reason?

These next 4 years might take 16 years off my life from stress, anger, and heart strings being torn at the profound sadness of our country’s good name and legacy being dragged through the mud and the torture we will inflict on our closest friends.
