"The cyclists arrive at sunrise, rolling through Chicago’s Latino neighborhoods and stopping at tamale carts, elote stands & candy stalls. They buy out every last item — every tamale, every corn cob, every bundle of sweets. Then they load up the food and deliver it to shelters and families in need."

There are people who think journalism & literature should reflect & perhaps wink with jaded eye at the "reality" that everything in life is just middle school, & there're people for whom journalism & literature are the human attempt to think beyond the eternal hell of middle school.

the astonishing thing about this wave of denialism is that we have more or less decidedly hit the point where clean energy is the *cheaper* option by some distance
I'm kind of baffled how the "moderates" have apparently all decided to turn against climate policy at once, just as China reaches green electrostate liftoff mode. I thought these people were all about National Greatness and making Hard Choices

NEW: @propublica.org investigated the Chicago apartment raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours. They find:

- NONE of the arrested were criminally charged
- NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists."
- ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

As I sometimes like to mention, s the only reason you know who Jeffrey Epstein is (that is, if you weren't one of his friends/clients/beneficiaries) is because Ms Brown, below, broke the story of his sweetheart deal to get out of the 2008 trafficking charges.

This kind of "objectivity" is an insult to the historial legacy of American journalism over its long history over the last 250 years. Journalists were SUPPOSED to have a point of view (crusading, muckraking, afflicting the comfortable/comforting the afflicted). That was the job description.
Got turned down on a piece about ICE in Chicago for an international news org because they believed I couldn’t be objective about my neighbors getting kidnapped. And well, guilty as charged I guess.

Doing pre-K arithmetic assignments quickly is… well let's just say I'm guessing the teacher felt like they needed something nice to say about this kid. It doesn't generalize to being "good at math," to say the least
I think the belief by the powerful that "people will put up with many things if you are excellent at math" is incredibly revealing in terms of understanding How We Got Here

Spyware is proliferating far beyond the scope of “rare” or “limited” attacks.

"Because targeting is so easy, we have seen govts use surveillance malware to spy on a broad range of people, including relatively minor political opponents, activists, and journalists." – @evacide.bsky.social, @eff.org

Government surveillance vendors want us to believe their spyware products are only used in limited and targeted operations against terrorists and serious criminals. That claim is increasingly difficul...

The billionaires think they "won" Capitalism and so cannot come to terms with the fact it steals from all of us, and stole the most important things in life from them: Time. Humanity. Beauty. Truth. Purpose. Love.
The richest man on the planet also seems to be the unhappiest man on the planet. IDK why these billionaires all seem so angry w/ their lot in life.

New: The FBI is quietly urging ICE agents to properly ID themselves in the field.

In a bulletin to law enforcement last month, it warned of criminals posing as ICE to rob, rape, kidnap—a problem it says now demands national coordination to confront.

FBI Warns of Criminals Posing as ICE, Urges Agents to ID Themselves
In a bulletin to law enforcement agencies, the FBI said criminal impersonators are exploiting ICE’s image and urged nationwide coordination to distinguish real operations from fakes.
