if you want some immediate hot takes post minneapolis election, check out Mill City Hall's latest ep!
New podcast episode! Recorded the day after the election, a relatively quick set of immediate reactions and questions: millcityhall.com/episodes/202... - as I say in the episode, day-after analysis should be treated suspiciously. But we gotta start somewhere.

well LOOK at what WORKS. speeding down 30% where cameras are?! that is almost the same percentage as car crash fatalities CAUSED by speed.

bad driving is a moral failing. speeding is so dangerous and we do it so flippantly.

Speeding down 30% in Minneapolis where cameras were installed
The city will begin ticketing drivers starting Friday after giving out warnings during the first month speed cameras were active.

I am SO excited about this! The @mplscargobikelibrary.com pilot program has been SO successful.

In 6 months we:
-trained 80 members, who collectively rode over 4,000 miles
-doubled our locations (1 to 2)
-quadrupled our fleet (3 to 12 bikes)
-brought on several volunteers
-got a grant for 2026!

i am at the TDZ conference attending a talk about CAVs (connected and automated vehicles). this quote just stuck with me:

"how can we make things safer by removing the driver?"

driver behavior is so problematic we are now talking getting rid of drivers all together. i have so many feelings.

i grew up on food stamps (SNAP) when it looked like monopoly money, when you couldnt buy imported foods with it, and when my single mom was making minimum wage in the 90s. because of it, we never went hungry.

But they love it. They always have. They have just always feared that their opponents would do to them what they want to do to the groups they hate.
