Nana, birder, and walker of dogs. Equity focused STEM educator, program manager, and activist. Newish to Portland, OR. PNW for a while.
Taught Lucas how to count crowds yesterday. Start with a group of five. Then make it 10. Then make it 25. Now make a group of 100. How many 100s do you see here? We both came up with between 8,000-9,000 in Beaverton, OR on 6/14/2025.

55 years ago today, 4 students at Kent State University were killed for protesting the Vietnam war.

We must stand against war, militarism, and government attacks on protest.

The plan is to break the parks, claim they must be privatized, take them from the American people and give them to their friends.
Update: the Trump administration has proposed cutting the National Park System by $900 million, about one third of its budget.
Please read/share if you love your national parks!
New from @pamherd.bsky.social & me: A DOGEr is now running the National Park Service.

They were already short of employees to manage record crowds. DOGE has cut 13% and wants to cut 30%.

The Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 created the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. I reread it today; nothing in the law allows a president to defund PBS and NPR. In fact, Congress specifically sought to insulate public media from political pressure.

An issue regarding NIH is that program officers & grant officials were RIF'ed so they can't respond to routine communications about grants admin - like $ not yet transferred- which means they can't send $, which means they are selectively & with no strategy, cutting grants that they haven't “cut.”
