The effort I am putting in to not bingeing the new Stranger Things?

But also *screaming*

One of my favourite things is that I am always willing to answer questions about the unconventional aspects of my life, and will let you know if a question is too invasive/personal, (or if you DEFINITELY shouldn’t ask another person it) but because I don’t volunteer information…

No one. Ever. Asks.

Hello from the @worcesterartmuseum.bsky.social, where we are spending a lovely Christmas Eve looking at medieval and early modern armor from Mughal India, Sudan, and medieval Europe in the newly reopened armor galleries. Truly, this is the way. ⚔️

I’ve also been given a necklace that makes it look like a socialite has been murdered by a vampire and I’ve never loved anything more in my life:

For Christmas, I have been given a box of Victorian Parlour Games and literally the only venue I can think of for most of these is a sex party.

I always find it astonishing that I was prescribed oestrogen and progesterone for *years* by a nurse, with just a yearly blood pressure and weight, but my GP feels disempowered to *read a clinic letter* in order to monitor my T.
literally.

it was a couple of years ago when they suddenly decided they simply can't sign a prescription and send blood results to a GIC

not for any other reason than "woah there, this trans stuff is a bit controversial. fuck them."
GPs could do most of what most of us need with a pamphlet and a letter from the NHS telling them they have to do it. Then the next bottle neck will be surgery

There was one book for the Sprogs my local indie couldn’t get - ordered it off Waterstones on 14th.

Charged me 3 quid delivery, and they’ve not even dispatched it yet.

(I understand delivery costs money - but you think they’d at least try to make last posting dates…)

I’ve always parsed it as “asleep”. As in, “quiet, she’s just away,” or the lullaby refrain, “hush a-by, hush-away…”
Time for my annual close-reading-the-carol-sheet question: what does the "Away" in "Away in a Manger" actually mean?

I’m having thoughts about magic (final k optional), money, and effectiveness.

My feeling is always that magic is like nudging the universe. It’s just that sometimes what you’re nudging is a is a feather, and sometimes it’s a mountain.

you are not owed the affection of your children, but they are owed yours. if this seems unfair to you you are not fit to have kids. they don't get the choice that you do

Anyone else get anxiety “fighting dreams”? I’ve identified three forms. I get in a fight and:
1) can’t hit/kick effectively. Classic static running style.
2) take significant/disfiguring damage, realise I fucked up.
3) totally body the other guy, then realise I’ve just committed GBH.

In the midst of cataloguing a Classic Fiction section where the metadata is broadly incoherent, it comes as no surprise to me that for the Tolkien it is lovingly and correctly entered.

You guys are great. Predictable, but great.

Rereading ‘An Unsuitable Job for a Woman’, which I must have last read in… 2003? 2004?

And it’s fascinating to me how very remote it feels now, compared to then. 1972 was only 30 years ago then.

Now it’s over 50.

It feels like a period piece, rather than a recent one.
