🚨The Home Secretary said "illegal migration is dividing our country."

Let’s be clear: the only thing dividing our country is a politics devoid of humanity and compassion.

The plans announced today are a cruel political choice. It is #NotInOurName.

Women for Refugee Women : Morally and ethically bankrupt: Our response to the Government's announcement 17 November 2026
The Government has announced sweeping plans to overhaul refugee protection in the UK -  some of the most hostile we have seen in recent years. We are outraged, saddened, and extremely concerned.

Horrified and furious at the latest episode of the political weaponisation of human beings looking for safety and security? Not sure how to take action? Then it's another good day to support a local organisation like @scotrefugeecouncil.bsky.social

Governments and voters are both reacting to algorithm-shaped “public opinion,” not grounded priorities. Immigration feels urgent because platforms amplify fear, pulling parties into hollow performances of toughness. The far right reads that drift as confirmation it’s winning.
Not everyone is unhappy about the Government's descent into anti-refugee politics

An otherwise rare clear Forrest Road though! Usually the bike lane is parked up *and* you're sandwiched against the parked cars by a bus, or have a van, a black cab and an SUV trying to shove into the sliver of road space you're occupying... Bonus points if it's also dark and raining.
Cyclists should stay in the bike lane

One of my earliest moments of radicalization was in 2005 when Larry Summers said that women biologically have less aptitude for science than men. Following that, scores of equally unimpressive people wrote pieces trying to explain or justify his remarks, when they should have called for his removal.

Today marks 32 yrs since the destruction of Mostar’s Old Bridge by Croat nationalist forces under command of war criminal Praljak during the Bosnian War. One of the most grotesque acts of “culturcide” of the 20th century.

Recent events suggest a renewed surge in nationalist extremism in Croatia.

Tl;dr: We've "cut the green crap" before (thanks Tories!) and it was disastrous for householders, their wallets and the climate.
Rare for trade bodies to be this publicly furious. The Treasury could make some relatively modest savings by cutting energy efficiency schemes, but it would do a lot of long term damage.

Scroll up to see thread - I love the railway path network too but once the clocks change... (And lighting isn't the answer - a well-lit railway path is still lacking exits and overlooking buildings.)
The paths are wonderful, but they are not and cannot be a load-bearing part of the city’s transport infrastructure. We need safe and direct routes on main streets that anyone can use without worrying for their safety. But it’s just not happening so far.
