Hi. 👋 It's nice to get a little influx of new followers. I'm Adam and, as you can see, I'm a town planner with a particular interest in how urban design and infrastructure can deliver climate solutions. Looking like a long-lost member of the Village People is an added perk of the job.

For how many years/decades/centuries have women been fighting not to be reduced to our hair, tits and clothes?

Well done everybody. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Fixed it for you. Idiots! If the exclusion is based on appearance then it will certainly impact cis folks as well as trans folks.

I hope you meet patriarchal standards of how a "man" or a "woman" is supposed to look or you too could be banned from public facilities.

This is "feminism" apparently.
You're not asking trans people. You're asking all people. This affects us all. Anyone could be barred from services based on appearance. Since, surprisingly we all have a fecking appearance

If you're trying to convince your friends to spend time on Bluesky rather than X, maybe show them this. X is not "the public town square" or about "free speech." It's "just what Elon Musk wants you to see." If you see stuff he doesn't like he'll step in to make sure you don't see it for long.
If you scroll on X, you are only being shown what Elon wants you to see. If you create content on X, no one will see it unless Elon wants them to.

On a whole range of issues, those who warned that Labour would be indistinguishable from the Tories before them were fundamentally right.

Labour: cutting the green crap, Cameron-style.
We've heard the grant to switch to heat pumps may be scrapped. If this happens, we're looking at the terminal collapse of the heat pump industry - meaning tens of thousands of job losses, including hundreds if not thousands of small to medium businesses. We're speaking to panicked business owners.

Carbon emissions aside, I think what I also want to highlight here is that the scale of job losses associated with these proposals is truly shocking. Apprenticeships gone. Thousands of businesses going bust. A government truly motivated by growth simply would not do this.
In case you're not across the Budget next Wednesday, it looks like it's going to be really bad for helping Britain reduce its carbon emissions. I'll explain... 🧵

it's so good to hear a british politician on the main bbc news platforms actually saying this stuff though. like we just got used to it not happening for years
A Government of cowards.

Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.

They can't get away with this.

The passion though. Which is totally justified! It's just something how rare it is to see passionate anger in the face of injustice from our political leaders.

Glasgow is leaving its dirty, grey, car-dominated past behind. The city's Avenues Project is transforming the streetscape. Little wonder that cycling is up by a staggering 43% in just the past year. Now we need to expand the project and build on its success. www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/news/scottis...

I look for lots of things in a gym but overly dramatic lighting and insane locker room decor are two core criteria, apparently.

Also, perhaps Mahmood shouldn't be able to "push her proposals through Parliament"; were they in Labour's manifesto?

It seems we're quick to question the Government's mandate to raise taxes, but less quick to question their mandate for these anti-migration reforms.
Deep breath, once more for those at the back, seeking asylum is not illegal. No matter route used, which considering Labour has closed pretty much all the last remaining alternatives means irregular ones.
Anti-immigration sentiments are stoked by politicians like Mahmood, not people seeking safety.

That's the thing about prejudice; your mind is already made up.

The EHRC is fundamentally unfit for purpose.
51/ The EHRC Chief Executive, John Kirkpatrick, gave written evidence that it took less than a day to draft the guidance, and just over 24 hours in total to decide to publish it.

Sounds based to me. More politicians should follow sex workers. Sex work is work and sexuality is normal. The weird thing is when religious people are conditioned to toxically entangle their faith & shame with regular sexual desires. The weird thing is stigmatizing & criminalizing working people.

This car-free bridge across to the Riverside Museum in Glasgow was only completed last year and it's already a huge hit with cyclists—despite the city's climate, latitude etc.

What sustainable travel modes need more than anything is the infrastructure to support them.

Tl;dr: We've "cut the green crap" before (thanks Tories!) and it was disastrous for householders, their wallets and the climate.
Rare for trade bodies to be this publicly furious. The Treasury could make some relatively modest savings by cutting energy efficiency schemes, but it would do a lot of long term damage.

Mamdani is clearly a skilled communicator, but answering quickfire questions like this becomes easier when you have what many politicians lack: a bedrock of solid principles. It's such a refreshing contrast to the kind of triangulation we're used to. Keir Starmer and his ilk could never.
