It is 100% a dogwhistle. They're saying "hey I'm not like those cringe nerdy leftists, I actually will tolerate any amount of Racism, sexism, homophobia, and transphobia from someone if I think they're useful to my personal political aspirations."
i've learned that most people who invoke the phrase "purity test" are using it as a shorthand for, and to diminish the entire concept of, "not tolerating overt transphobia and/or racism in a public forum"

What Ben is describing here is called Politics. It's such a foreign concept in the US that this needs to be explained to libs who think immediately giving up if you don't instantly have the votes for something without having done any work is the only move available.
Lot of people yelling recently "but we don't have the votes!" True! That doesn't mean "immediately quit." (Also not what propter is saying here, to be clear.) It means create a spectacle, make things cause celebres, make the Republican position untenable.

Being mostly offline these days is awesome. You get to come in for your first time in a while and see that Poasters are still arguing over whether you should be posting on here or X. Not one of them ever considering the possibility of going outside.
Yeah again, not telling you how to post but the number of people I see both enthusiastically celebrating “running off” someone and decrying people still being on X is not zero. You gotta choose guys!
I find it hard to square the preciousness about "why would someone ever stay on Twitter?" when everyone on this site knows that the community here intentionally chased off lots of people.
