It's very important to me people care about the stewardship of their environment, but just as much so their skyward as their earthbound. Please pay attention to policy regarding space exploration, mining, & communications.

They were journalists at major news outlets in New York and D.C. before taking big pay cuts to run the Midcoast Villager, a paper covering a rocky, coastal part of Maine.

This still has the vibe of one of those dramatized people pleading with/yelling at Pontius Pilate after the flogging & before the crucifixion paintings Evangelicals love. It just *feels* biblical in a way that makes it so much funnier.
This Giants fan has had the worst weekend of his life.

This isn’t data, it’s a warning. Serious 30 month and 9 month rainfall deficiency in the Mt Lofties, SE SA and the Otways…levels which in the past have led to catastrophic bushfires. Prepare people…clean up, repair, save cash and insure. And join community agencies now. #auspol

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

With all the discussion over the last several months about the future of support for Israel on the nationalist right, I wrote for @zeteo.com about an often overlooked aspect of the ideological relationship.
In Israel, the Right Sees the America It Wants
Recent tensions aside, the nativist right has long seen itself in the Jewish state.

I cannot stress enough how much I despise GenAI, but I really need people to remember that the promise of evaluation models in research spaces is endless & those models are entirely different things than the murder & plagiarism machines of OpenAI & GPT.

Support scientists when they discuss them.

Not to be dramatic, but a provision in an executive order Trump issued Monday has the potential to transform the National Guard into a force for domestic repression. Measures like these are not “distractions”; and politicians who call them that will never protect your freedom or your safety.
The National Guard's Anti-You Quick Reaction Force
Trump establishes by fiat the standing army he means to tread on you. Is there an opposition party in the United States?

True: @zohranmamdani lives in 1 unit of rent-stabilized housing.

Also true: Andrew Cuomo oversaw the loss of 96,064 units of rent-stabilized housing. And killed NYC’s program helping people move out of shelter.

Leaders must show moral clarity. Andrew, time to move out. 🧵

Noah Shachtman's New York Magazine piece doesn't just reveal what the ADL has become, it highlights the contradictions of Zionism as a nativist movement with elite respectability

The mass scale divestment from aerospace research is so disheartening as an indicator of a decline in valuing science, but more pressing in my mind is the lives it will cost.

Research for space travel & safety concerns are huge drivers of innovations in QoL tech from sanitation to food.

Doing this thing now where I'm tracking my feelings about movies/shows to reflect on later when multipart arcs are completed as a nice reference point.

First steps was a solid movie. I found Pascal made me like Reed for the first time in decades.

Nobody wanted to talk to me about comic books when I was a kid and I found it really frustrating because comics were like the #1 thing I cared about. Decades later and huge swaths of my time revolves around getting people to talk to me about comic books. It's basically my Citizen Kane backstory.
