Today the ERA Bill passed, marking a dark day for NZ workers.

This Govt has weakened YOUR job security.

For instance, the door is now open for employers to ‘re-hire’ anyone as a ‘specified contractor’, lacking protections like min wage, holiday pay, sick leave and the right to join a union. #nzpol

Failing to check the weather forecast ahead of their outdoor promotional event, then declaring themselves heroes for having to run out with an umbrella when it rains, seems symbolic of this government.

“At Waitangi this year, the prime minister structured his speech around the three articles of Te Tiriti, and explained what each article says and means.

The problem is that he was just plain wrong, writes legal scholar Carwyn Jones.” #NZpol e-tangata.co.nz/comment-and-...

Quick, dirty and expensive. The govt is going to build a $1 billion liquid natural gas (LNG) import terminal, instead of investing in clean energy. And as for the levy…if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…

After a trial over the last few years, Ireland has launched a permanent scheme giving a basic income of €325 a week for artists.

2,000 will be eligible, and successful recipients will be chosen at random from applicants, who must be "professional artists" (definition tbc).

Nothing winds me up more than Luxon and assorted other suits saying we need to be wealthier before we can afford doctors, nurses, water we can swim in etc. Meanwhile wealthier kiwi households have stacked up huge piles of savings (cash, shares, equity etc). The economy works for the few. [🧵 1/n]

IT'S FEBRUARY 2026.

THE RAIL ENABLED HYUNDAI FERRIES FOR I REX WERE MEANT TO ARRIVE BY NOW.

Instead we have no rail enabled ferries, the two we have are clunky as fuck, and there will be no replacement ferries until 2029 at the earliest.

My wife and I were on a beach in the Wellington area and found this at a car park, in the grass.

It is approximately the size of a person's hand, made of bone, and intricately carved.

I've masked the lower half,as only the legitimate owner will be able to fully describe it.

Please share this...(1)

Leaders should absolutely show up, but disaster response isn’t a photo op or should be trivialised. Watching our Prime Minister hand out boxes of KFC to impacted communities was peak cringe IMO. We need serious, systems-level action and that 6b resilience fund like yesterday.

Landlords pricing business out and being happy with vacant properties is what’s killing cities. Not millennials, not GenZ, not people working from home.

It’s cranking up rent to the breaking point and then chilling with empty storefronts.

What can be done to address that issue?
