"You cannot in good faith stand up on Monday and say, 'Stop building shelters!' And then stand up on Thursday and say, 'Get everybody out of the encampments.' It is REPREHENSIBLE to do that," says Councillor Gord Perks of Brad Bradford's motion.

Councillor Myers: "Just so I have it clear, the city is paying $1.5 billion for these GO Train stations. Who's going to own these assets when they're complete?"

The province, says staff.

Myers: "So the City of Toronto has paid $1.5 billion to build assets for the province."

Staff confirm, yes.

Another thing that I do while driving is try to anticipate stuff. Could a jogger come from behind that hedge? Could that kid trip and fall onto the street? If yes, I slow down, watch carefully, and give lots of space. No, you don't have a right to a clear road. Yes, driving should be that hard.
Hi @npr.org! We worked late tonight putting together this handy pocket guide!

It doesn't address road design issues, but if we're going to educate road users, we should include drivers.

It's the size of a folded business card. Print it, fold it, put it in your wallet!

Some politicians will say out loud that road deaths are the cost of doing business. MPP Ric Breese at the Bill 212 committee meeting said that we would need to slow cars to 5km/h to avoid all deaths, and of course we can't do that, so "there occasionally will be injuries".
Violent crime is more rare, shocking, headline-grabbing. We treat it as an intolerable aberration from the norm. And we should! But that suggests that road deaths and injuries are the norm and are therefore tolerable. No politician will say that out loud, but watch what they prioritize.

Drivers hate this one weird trick: matching the big number on the sign to the one on your dash.

Ford wants to ban school-zone cameras + fund “a million ways” later. Great! Build them now. Don’t switch off the only thing lowering speeds today.

Ford government’s attempt to remove Toronto bike lanes is unconstitutional, judge rules
The provincial government had argued that road space dedicated to cyclists was adding to congestion. A Superior Court judge said the government’s decision would risk the lives of cyclsits.

This, by the way, is also the answer to people snarking "there's a Charter right to bike lanes now?" No, and the decision doesn't say there is. The government can still cause you bodily harm, the Charter only asks them to present the barest evidence-based case that it's needed.

Really cannot overstate the extent to which the court was impatient with the total lack of evidence presented by the government.

This is great news 📰 for Montréal and creates a case study for Toronto to model. 🚲😻
That’s so cool! Montreal’s bike share system is rolling out trailers that work on BIXIs as well as personal bikes.

They’re hoping to have 50 by the end of the summer, and hundreds over the next few years.

A win is a win! 👏

After the Ford government’s attempt to appeal, the court has ruled in favour of upholding a temporary injunction first granted in April 2025.

In other words, Ontario continues to be prevented from removing 3 major bike lanes on Yonge, University, and Bloor in Toronto.
July 9, 2025 at 7:05 PM
📰🚨 The Ontario government lost its appeal: the 3 targeted bike lanes for removal will remain untouched until a final ruling is made by Justice Schabas. Shout out to @ecojusticecanada.bsky.social @cycletoronto.bsky.social
