Most think engineering growth is about scaling systems. That’s the easy part. Scaling culture and knowledge sharing is by far the biggest challenge.

How fast is #gemma3 270M out of the box on a @raspberrypi.com 5? About 30 tok/s on CPU for the Q4_0 model using #ollama. Tried using #llamacpp, got about 32 tok/s. 🤯

Extremely promising for edge compute with no accelerator! Model is only ~250Mb on disk. Can't wait to fine-tune for my IoT projects 👨‍💻

Just found out that "fuchsia" is pronounced in English as "few-sha". How can whole continents be so wrong? It's so obviously written to sound "FOOK-see-ya".

Trump’s framing of these talks is so wrong.

1) Why does Russia have any right to any sovereign Ukrainian territory?

2) Why’s the US “mediating”? Have both parties asked it to?

3) How can the US be a mediator when it’s seeking its own material gain from at least one party?

4) Why exclude Europe?

Python 1.0.0, released 31 years ago today:

--> Tired of decyphering the Perl code you wrote last week?

--> Frustrated with Bourne shell syntax?

--> Spent too much time staring at core dumps lately?

Maybe you should try Python!
Python 1.0.0 is out!

Today is truly a sad day for the Python community, as we mourn the passing of Michael “voidspace” Foord.

Most people will know him for his mock package (and later stdlib module), but those of us who had the pleasure to meet him… almost all my memories of him are delightfully goofy. 1/2

Yes, 2025 isn't looking like it will be a great year. Right wing authoritarianism is rising. Global warming continues unabated. The world is as fractured as ever.

But at least we can count on one positive thing: it is the Year of Linux Desktop.

Happy Baltic 🇱🇹 🇱🇻 🇪🇪 rail timetable coordination day 🎉

From today onwards you can *finally* go from Vilnius via Rīga and Valga to Tallinn in a day (the reverse also works)

Getting stuck in Valga is no more

One of my #CrossBorderRail campaign priorities is fixed! 💪

TIL you can set the color-scheme CSS property and get automatic dark mode for simple web pages.

:root { color-scheme: light dark; }

Then you can use light-dark() to customize colors and to customize images. No @media conditionals!
