My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

I miss the good old days when most of us had a shared reality.
*More than half of the GOP believe the 2020 election outcome was the result of fraud
*More than 4 out of 10 believe 9/11 was an inside job
*37% believe the Holocaust did not happen or was exaggerate
*36% believe NASA faked the moon landing
*1 in 3 believe vaccines cause autism

If citizenship rights are not secure, they’re not secure. Full stop. The admin has admitted it wants mass politicized denationalization. Nullification of birthright citizenship is indeed a form of that, and there will be ever new forms after it

Laws aren't real. They exist solely on account of buy-in from society's participants. Once one side disengages, you no longer reside in a society based on laws. You live in a society based on power and armed force. I am begging folks to accept this so we can get moving.
Just legal Calvinball. Obviously lawless.

I try to be clear-eyed about the rapid encroachment of fascism but ”you can go to national parks for free on my birthday but not MLK Day” is challenging that approach.
National parks change prioritizes Trump birthday over days honoring Black people
Free entrance days at national parks no longer include MLK Day and Juneteenth.

Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff spent five hours with Putin. No State Department. No Secretary of State. No NATO partners. No cameras. They walked in with “peace” talking points and walked out with nothing. There was no real negotiation, no plan. Every serious proposal was rejected.

AI pricing is here, and you’re paying for it. Corporations are raking in record profits by using AI to set prices based on personal data — and loyal customers end up paying the most. “It is a well-oiled extraction machine.” From @ddayen.bsky.social: trib.al/PKHo6he
Prices in the Machine - The American Prospect
AI’s real contribution to humanity could be maximizing corporate profit by preying on personal data to raise prices. In fact, it’s already happening.

Is it possible that whole “free speech” and “ending censorship” thing was all just a setup by election deniers and useful idiots to work platform referees into serving their objectives? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 Maybe there was no “censorship industrial complex” and these ppl never gave a shit ab free speech. 🙊

"If the U.S. military operation is not an armed conflict of any kind, these orders to kill helpless civilians clinging to the wreckage of a vessel our military destroyed would subject everyone from SECDEF down to the individual who pulled the trigger to prosecution under U.S. law for murder."
Here are US military lawyers stating clearly that Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's "kill everybody" orders are either (1) war crimes or (2) murder.

Either way, expect prosecutions in the future.

An important part of arresting the consolidation of authoritarianism is convincing corporations and institutions that Trump will eventually be out of power and at that point they’ll face consequences for their actions and by that standard this is a good sign

SOOOO many replies to this reinforcing my other belief, which is that everyone really wants a permanently larger welfare state & permanent stimulus checks/UBI. But again, allow me to invite you to imagine the media & politics if Biden or Harris had campaigned on THAT:

Once again, I remind you that this woman cannot be allowed anywhere near the strategy or leadership of the Democratic Party:

Also, stop it with this BS. Biden correctly said the economy in 2024 was good, because it was. Yes, no one believed it. That wasn't his fault.
Slotkin: "He's trying to distract us from the big stories of last week, the Epstein files and economy. He's tweeting 'the economy is the best it's ever been' -- amazing considering the public isn't stupid. It reminded me of Joe Biden. Biden tried to tell us for a year that the economy was great."

There's a place divers can go in Maui where you just rest on the sandy bottom & a squadron of these VW-Bug-sized creatures will just glide over you--sometimes dipping down to graze you with their bellies--while you listen to humpback whales calling in the distance. 10/10 recommended life experience.
Divers interacting with a spotted eagle ray (according to Google).

These rays are recognizable by their distinct white spots on a dark back and a diamond-shaped body. The unique pattern of spots on their underside is like a human's fingerprint, individual to each ray.
