When I got the contract to write a history of concentration camps in 2014, I hoped to keep the US from ending up here. That didn't work out! But now it's critical to understand how much is already in process and the enormity of what's coming. The sooner we act to stop it, the more people we'll save.

The problem with this strategy is that open election interference then becomes incorporated into the democratic settlement between the parties. You cannot treat electoral irregularities like this and preserve democracy

Really the most interesting thing about AI is how absolutely desperate all the capitalists have been to believe without evidence that it would be a WMD in their arsenal for class warfare. A thing we definitely know about them now and should remind them of when they come begging for bailouts
HARVARD BUSINESS REVIEW: “.. In our in-progress research, we discovered that AI tools didn’t reduce work, they consistently intensified it.”

80,000 people is just a number that makes my stomach clench thinking about it
ICE is currently holding around 80,000 detainees. Nazi Germany didn't reach this number in its formal camp system until 1942, nine years after seizing power and three years into the war.

I remember when some “experts” said ‘don’t worry, they can’t enact their plan at scale because they don’t have the capacity.’ As if that was a limit rather than a step.
ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

If these mega-camps are utilized to the full capacity ICE intends, they'll be the largest prisons in the country, with little real oversight. www.ajc.com/politics/202...

I think the people at Columbia who enabled this, including the admin that Mahmoud Khalil implored to protect him and who at best did nothing, at worst entrapped him, should be ostracized.
Columbia will never be free of this stain.
When Texas lawmakers tried to visit 33-year-old “political prisoner” Leqaa Kordia at an ICE facility, she’d already lost 50 pounds and was running a high fever.

By Friday, she was hospitalized. But her family still has not been able to locate her.

There are elementary schoolers locked up eating food with worms in it in camps ridden with tuberculosis and measles around the country. The govt is buying up tens of millions of dollars' worth of square footage of warehouses to lock more children in.
