A historic turning point for clean heating in Europe: For the first time, in the first half of 2025 sales of heat pumps in Germany have surpassed those of gas boilers.
This is a big milestone, demonstrating that the transition away from fossil fuels in our buildings is not just a future ambition.

Michael Prescott's report makes vital points about the importance of being accurate, and also how difficult that is. For instance, he describes himself as having been Political Editor of the Sunday Times for 10 years, which is not what the Guardian reported when he left the job.

It's here! The prize-giving night for Jesmond Library's Creative Writing Competition 🥳
It was a pleasure, as always, to be on the judging panel for this competition, and the quality was once again superb - I think you'll love the winning pieces.
Can't wait for the event!

This is a bit of a plaintive, feeble plea BUT: since we started selling our stupid mugs six years ago, we haven’t put our prices up once. And obviously all our materials and stuff have gone up and up and up. So, er, if you fancy buying some nonsense from us this Xmas, you’d be big bloody heroes x
PINNED POST (pls share to spread our pain)
✍️ Hey we're Alex & Sian and we've accidentally spent a decade drawing 20,000 footballers quite badly. If you want to see a certain player, just ask

Thanks to replies here plus a little digging: to 'fix' google, go to your browser Search Engines option (eg chrome://settings/searchEngines), add new, give it a name, shortcut name and {google:baseURL}search?q=%s&udm=14&tbs=li%3A1 or www.google.com/search?q=%s&... as URL. Make default if preferred!

Am fascinated by that Dan Burn goal. Superb finish obvs, so satisfying - but the movement! He starts in front of his marker then gives him a tiny shove before scampering into space. What's that about?? To disorient? Physically (prevents immediate acceleration?) or mentally (too much to focus on?)?

I still think people have this idea that algorithms & 'AI' are inherently neutral & unbiased.
As we stumble into a future where many will get information through dubious AI answers, the need to resist that temptation & question who's seeking to influence those answers becomes even more important.
