another aside about DHS, not only was it badly designed by morons but its just fundamentally not a normal ~interior ministry~ its a Department for Fighting The Terrorists, basically institutional PTSD manifested into the organizational culture of two of the largest paramilitary agencies in the USG
DHS in general was a bad re-org.
Give TSA and the air marshals to DOT, customs and civil immigration to state, criminal immigration enforcement to justice, the natsec shit to Justice/DoD, etc.
Only border patrol is the one that doesn’t neatly fit into any already existing cabinet portfolio.

I am in some ways slightly more sympathetic than most to elected Dems right now as people scream Do Something at them, because there really, truly is not all that much they have the power to do at the moment besides yell

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of finding one constructive real world offline thing you can do to use your particular skills in service of fighting fascism as a psychological defense against the constant drumbeat of fuckery
my hot take is that I don't think it's this website specifically that's toxic. the Circumstances are toxic and nobody really knows what to do about it so they come online and scream. and if I may offer an alternative: actually going outside and screaming feels better.
