What if Hexen was a girl? 💁🏻‍♀️ An on-and-off project of mine for the past few years, and focused on to release it [almost] in time for Hexen's 30th anniversary: and now complete! I redesigned and redrew the playable characters, and weapons that have visible hands.

Rebecca Heineman is a goddamn legend among women. She did SO much great stuff, from her impossible game ports, to tirelessly keeping the mac gaming scene alive, to making sure that the Kinect works when you're wearing a skirt, to making the worst version of DOOM kinda glorious in its own way.
My trailblazing game industry bad-ass friend Rebecca Heineman has passed away.

Fuck cancer.

Friends, let’s not forget her: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebecca...

Happy Birthday, Final Fantasy IX! Released in North America 25 years ago today on November 14th, 2000!

A return to the high fantasy of older Final Fantasy games, giving us some of the most beloved characters in the franchise and, uh, an infamous PlayOnline guide book, aha.

Much love for FF9. 💜

I've been working on my Hexen female character project to get it done in time for the game's 30th anniversary on October 30. [checks calendar] Anyhow, I've been redrawing the weapons where you can see your character's hands, so they have women's hands instead. 💁🏻‍♀️ Finally done with this part, for now.

The ZDoom line isn't just another Doom port — it is THE Doom port, to which all others are compared and found wanting. After years under a brilliant but oppressive leader, it finally stands on its own and I look forward to seeing it flourish.
UZDOOM WILL BE RELEASED TOMORROW

Not only that, but originally referred to weaving, as of cloth; same root as "textile" and "texture". The original technology was women's work. 💁🏻‍♀️

And weaving was a precursor to… computers! Wires woven to hold memory; punch-cards that guided looms could also hold data. Women's work indeed.

Your daily reminder that language is a technology. Chopsticks are technology. Technology literally means “the practical application of knowledge.”

We occlude a lot of cool things by limiting the idea of technology Silicon Valley.
Yeah, like… "tech" or "technology" should cover a lot of other things than software, no? Hardware, machines, factories, any industry really. Solar panels are tech, car engines are tech.

it’s not the “tech industry”, it’s the “united states venture capital backed software industry” and we should say as much

A lot of comments on Mars rovers or Moon landings, but it's important to remember that the planet NASA studies most is Earth. This is less about cutting flashy things like moonwalks and more about keeping communities in the dark on climate, weather, agriculture, pollution, natural hazards, and more.

wplace protip: If you want people to help out with something you're working on, they need to know WHAT to draw. So, solid colors or an obvious pattern: a stranger with pixels to spare can just jump in and go. Otherwise you need to provide a reference.

I wrote a 20-page paper in an hour and a half to get it turned in on time. Got an A and a thank you from the prof for it being fun to read.

Relying on AI makes you weak. You will not survive the winter.
I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.

A @deck.blue tip I found by accident: If you're a zillion sub-pages deep in a column, you can click-and-hold on the ← button (for a second or so) to return to the top without having to click it a zillion-minus-one times.
