We regret to announce that the emergency mission to retrieve Farage from Trump's colon has failed.
Nigel Farage had been due on BBC1's Laura Kuenssberg show, the latest in her series of party leader interviews. But at the last minute he has seemingly been replaced by Richard Tice. Hmmmm.

Accelerate EU CPTPP alignment. Set out new approaches to reconcile economic security and openness. Send the message to US companies, you'll be better here.

Don't get into a retaliatory spiral. Don't get into China or the US mindsets. Focus on strengths.

Once again, Europe can't force the US President to be sane, so the question should be what is best for the continent, and that is to be the predictable good place to live and do business.

And not to follow him.

There's also Alex Karp of Palantir saying things like, “I love the idea of getting a drone and having light fentanyl-laced urine spraying on analysts that tried to screw us."

Neither Karp nor Thiel should be anywhere near the UK's defence or the NHS.

Because of IEEPA and other Acts, tariffs are one of the toys Trump can most easily throw out of the pram during a tantrum.

This means he will be tempted to reach for them each and every tantrum regardless of any past pinky promises to the contrary you and he exchanged.

Surreal. Mark Carney says that China is more aligned to the sovereignty of Denmark and Greenland, than the USA under President Trump

The global order is literally being re-written at speed

Don't those in the US understand this damage of trust will take years to repair?

The President of Poland:

Call the EU a “fading star” if you want — but Russia isn’t fading.
It’s an imperial power built on territorial theft, mass killings, and attacks on civilians.

- A strong Poland needs a healthy EU, not illusions about Moscow.

All key European leaders now said they won’t go along with this. So if the objective was coercion it has already failed. (This is not a US miscalculation- its a very Trumpian one).
Keir Starmer often takes 2-3 days to issue very mild criticism of US actions. This is both direct and issued fast.

I think there is a serious risk that the US miscalculated quite what a big deal the Greenland thing is to Europe (and in Europe).
NEW - Starmer says US "completely wrong" in threatening tariffs over Greenland

It's extraordinary but ultimately correct that Macron is draws a parallel between Greenland & Ukraine, essentially putting Trump in the same camp as Putin - an aggressor and violator of national sovereignty & international law.

The US under Trump is now being called out as a rogue state by Europe.

The instrument is referred to as the EU's "trade bazooka" because it gives the Commission broad authority to impose retaliatory measures, such as tariffs, export controls and restrictions on market access, foreign investment, services and public procurement.

The list is long, as you can see.

The regulation defines economic coercion as trade measures meant "to prevent or obtain the cessation, modification or adoption of a particular act by the Union or a Member State, thereby interfering in the legitimate sovereign choices of the Union or a Member State."

There are also some conditions.

What is the Anti-Coercion Instrument (ACI) that European lawmakers want to activate in response to Trump's 10% tariff announcement?

Adopted in 2023, the instrument was designed to hit back at foreign acts of economic coercion. It was inspired by China's trade restrictions on Lithuania.

What makes this statement by Emmanuel Macron so unprecedented is, for the first time, a leading European ally is equating Trump with Putin.

“No intimidation or threat will influence us - neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world.”

EVERYTHING has changed.
