In the spring I joked that the real winner of the Mayor's race was @ny4childcare.bsky.social thanks to their organizing for universal childcare. Today's announcement is the culmination of that work.
The goal of the multiyear plan, which Ms. Hochul is expected to introduce alongside the mayor in an appearance Thursday morning and will be a part of her State of the State address on Jan. 13, would be to offer universal access to children statewide, her office said.

ICE surveillance is directly connected to ICE violence. One of the most concrete things that progressive leaders can do in cities targeted by ICE is work to roll back surveillance ASAP:

-Cancel contracts with Flock
-Ban facial recognition
-End private camera registries
-Data privacy protections

Me, whose old supervisors would threaten to fire me constantly and once made me sit in the truck all day because he couldn't stand to look at me: "...wut."

Yesterday an undergraduate at my alma mater sent out a newsletter with the subject line, "goodbye 2015...hello 2016!!!"

Can't explain why but made my whole day.

A year ago, we had never heard of this man. 2025 was remarkable, in both disasters and miracles.

This past Sunday, from 8am to 8pm, New Yorkers from every corner of our city traveled to the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria to share their dreams, their worries, the change they want to see across New York. It was an honor listening to each of them.

Any one of us could be in the next apartment building that ICE raids in the middle of the night.

Any one of us could be on the next boat that Trump bombs on a whim.

Any one of us could be detained for hours despite being a U.S. citizen.

Authoritarianism hurts all of us.
