We had Trick or Pancake kids at the door last night. They don't even make an effort to dress up any more. One of them just had Pancake written across his forehead. The usual demanding money with menace conversation ensued. I blame the welfare state.

I've never read such bollocks in all my life.
It's a sign of a failing society that vital emergency services like the RNLI and mountain rescue are charities nearly fully staffed by volunteers rather than publicly funded agencies.

After the party to launch my second book in the pub opposite, I took some of my friends here for fish and chips and I paid for everyone with a fifty-pound note I strangely happened to have and NEVER have I felt so rich and successful. Good times.
