The official release is best, as what it actually says is "central government has taken the project off the devolved authority and put all of our staff working on it out to pasture" which alongside the defacto cancellation (that's exactly what this is) suggests this is a mess.

What's more interesting here is how furious a source or two of mine says Brabin was and is with Alexander. I need all of that juice in my ears, because if I was her I'd instantly defect to the Greens. This is an utter betrayal that isn't dampened by its inevitability.

There you have it, @ukgovernment.bsky.social could have made the processes work to deliver something promised to Leeds / West Yorkshire for decades but instead has used bureaucracy to delay by another decade. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Remember when HS2 to Leeds was cancelled by the NIC's shitty maths and fundamental lack of expertise, and Leeds was thrown the bone of "you'll get trams" and I said those would never be delivered?

Along with more than 50 other organisations, we have signed a letter to the Transport Secretary asking for the cycling and walking investment strategy to be more ambitious than it is.

Active travel should have a clear, long-term, fully deliverable national plan.

There is a deep irony in naming of Doncaster Sheffield airport ‘Robin hood’ when borrowing £57m to reopen a climate-destroying unprofitable boondoggle is clearly going to end up robbing from the poor and giving to the rich
Labour mayor and Reform UK leader "in agreement" on need for borrowing for airport
The Labour Mayor of Doncaster and leader of the Reform UK group on the City of Doncaster Council are “in agreement” on the borrowing required to reopen Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA).

Just as you thought food delivery companies couldn't inflict any more misery on society:

Instead of using lowly-paid gig economy contractors to deliver groceries, they're replacing humans with robots, who, in turn, force humans off the pavement into road traffic.

Finally caught up last night on ITV's Tour coverage. I can't believe it's over and out. Gary's dry wit, Ned and David's incisive, entertaining commentary, and the mini-features in between. Imlach on a pedalo, from the archives, rescuing some 'lake art' is one of the best things I've seen in a while
