This is the crux of it. Some people are more upset at admittedly mean and sometimes hateful personal criticism than coordinated, large-scale attacks on the pillars of a free society. And if pushed, that's why they claim that "civil debate" is actually the pinnacle of western civilization:
People can be very rude here but the fringe left does not pose anywhere near the threat of the fringe right. Children's hospitals have closed and politicians have been physically attacked due to Twitter agitation. This is an extremely basic fact about a topic that is allegedly your area of expertise

The Gestapo violence is horrible--but it's noteworthy that almost every ICE attack that gets recorded includes bystanders at a minimum telling them they're evil, and sometimes being even more engaged. Proud that so many are standing up to the thugs.
