I am so appreciative of the Treaty Nations taking a stand. I feel helpless it has come to this, they shouldn’t have to do this. Smith and our government should be ashamed with the lack of respect they are showing to Treaty Nations.

Danielle Smith and her separatist friends need to understand that the Treaty Nations effectively give us license to be here and not the other way around.

A thread you should bookmark. I wonder how many of these people (mostly in their 20s, 30s and 40s) died from dehydration or complications of dehydration. It's a well-known fact that ICE internment camps are depriving prisoners of water.
1. Renee Good, 37 years old – Killed by ICE on January 7, 2026

2. Nenko Stanev Gantchev, 56 years old – Died in ICE custody on December 15, 2025

3. Delvin Francisco Rodriguez, 39 years old – Died in ICE custody on December 14, 2025

I have seen <25 y/o racists abusing older Canadians of immigrant origin online. The irony is that the latter were *already* Canadians before the former were zygotes. None of this is even remotely rational (I suppose hatred never is).
One of the bizarre things I'm seeing on FB is Gen Z men & women posting bigoted & hateful comments that'd embarrass even a racist old grandpa. Then I scroll down their profile to pre-2019 and it's all about support for prog causes & politics.
They can't all be bots.

I wouldn’t be too sure about that. Millions of Americans are so poorly educated & indoctrinated that they literally fall into the moron category. Reasoning & factual information never enters their lives. Have you ever tried talking to a Trumper? It’s like talking to a block wall. But good luck!

While your risk of being pickpocketed is modestly higher in a French railway station than an American one, your risk of being abducted and sent to an internment camp to dehydrate to death is infinitely higher in the US than in France. Canadians, stop visiting the US. It's beyond unsafe.
The US should be red flagged as a major travel risk for Canadians! Why? Crime, gun violence, hate, gov't targeting (non-white) people & most importantly, spending money in the US enriches & emboldens a criminal regime hellbent on making Canada a vassal state & puts our own national security at risk.
Travelling for the holidays? Canada continues to urge caution in Mexico, France and other top destinations
If you’re travelling outside the country this holiday season, be sure to check the Canadian government’s most recent travel advisories before departing.

I find Trump a risk to European security. I would like all US military bases removed from Europe until a sane American is back in power.

The Far Right who now run the USA think the problem with WW2 was that they didn't takeover everything.

That is exactly what they will do, first N.America and Greenland, then Europe.

#Flu #Covid Our strategy for dining with extended family/friends is to eat & drink outdoors. It's not zero risk but it's *much* lower risk than indoors. We're doing exactly that in the backyard this Xmas Eve, assisted by a patio heater. Forecast is +2°C, easily dealt with by bundling up.
Christmas holidays are the main problem. Come together with families.

An "ugly sweater" Christmas party I went to last week. Contrary to popular belief, those of us still masking aren't necessarily avoiding society; we just choose to avoid respiratory illnesses that could otherwise suck weeks out of our lives each year. This N95 + sip valve combo is one I use often.

Tribalism based on physical traits or perceived ethnic origin is a huge pet peeve of mine.
I used to vend at an SK farmers' market & saw a microcosm of this when my MIL (visiting from France & speaking little English) would accompany me to help out. A good % of customers refused to engage with me 1/
Pull up any Reddit thread—you see formerly reasonable Canadians complaining "everyone" around them is brown.

Those brown folk may be Canadians too. They may not be culturally different in any significant way. None of it matters. Irrationally tribal sentiments about skin colour are manifesting.
Yeah, as I've been saying, we overcompensated because the media ran with the stupid 'GDP per capita' and 'immigrants hurt housing' framing. This is long-run damage to the economy by short-term thinking, feeding xenophobia, and helping to further destroy Canada's world class universities.

I can confirm this through my own numerous conversations with “concerned” friends and family and I despise that most of our current economic and cultural woes can be boiled down to bad decisions based on “I see more brown people and this upsets me” 😡

"Travel down due to trade war and low loonie"

Who writes this shit using my tax dollars? It's not "trade war" or "low loonie" it's the warmongering fuckrat in the Whitehouse who is actively threatening our sovereignty while planning to invade Venezuela tomorrow knowing the US military will do it.
This CBC article reads like a tourism brochure for the US travel industry. Not one mention of the boycott.
The article says that if you travel to Montana you can buy one beer and get one free.

"Should you still go to parties?" You'll get opinions at both extremes. Here's my approach—I go to them while wearing an N95 outfitted with a sip valve. I'm going to a secret Santa thingamajig tomorrow exactly this way. Cocktails ✅️ infections ❌️. Of course, flu shot and two Covid shots this season ✅️.
“I hoped we’d broken that taboo during the pandemic. Masks do help us and there’s nothing wrong with wearing one. It’s sensible. If we could do it for one virus, why are we too proud to do it for another?”

We're starting to see it in the Canadian & European lexicon too. If we don't stop this movement, we'll revisit the 1940s. Louder for the people in the back: It's a dog whistle targeting all people of colour, including Canadian/American citizens. It's not just about irregular or temporary residents.
As a person who has been studying extreme far right ideologies for the last decade (and did a PhD on immigration) I find the entrance of “remigration” into the mainstream American political lexicon so profoundly disturbing

In other news, my wife & I just received our second Covid vaccine dose of the 2025-26 season here in France. Pfizer/Comirnaty is the only type offered here. Living in Europe near the border with two other countries comes in handy when seeking to get vaccinated 2-3 times a year.

A racist Canadian man on FB argued with me yesterday on this topic, insisting that I wasn't "from Canada" because I wasn't born in Canada. This is exactly the kind of discourse I was referring to. These are people with rigid & narrow-minded perspectives trying to gaslight the rest of us.
One of the enraging aspects of MAGA-influenced public discourse, not only in the US but also in Canada, the EU & elsewhere, is that we've retrogressed on the idea of people having the right to define their own (often complex) identities. We're back to defining people by name, ethnicity & birthplace.

Excellent point.
It's honestly astounding how conservative women are infantilized into victims of their surroundings and peers as if they were too insipid to embrace the same noxious ideologies on their own. Erika Kirk and those like her CHOSE to align themselves with monsters because they're monstrous too.
