hi, i'm saint! i'm an artist inspired by the decorative and ornamental art of the 1800s, naturalism in painting, and organic designs. i use a wide range of techniques and mediums to make creature-focused art (all handcrafted) and i love to oil paint live at cons!

If you live near a Papa Murphy's, they're running a deal for a $1 medium pizza if you create an account with MySlice! Great opportunity for a hot meal at a low price 🙇‍♀️

Session two of portrait workshop. slow but steady - ebouche (sp?) layer of straight paint on top of underpainting. tons of time spent mixing colors to try and get the right one, and then carefully tiling in the specific hue/value/chroma shapes. 2.5 hours of painting = what you see !

i keep chugging away at representational and figurative painting with no real idea of where I'm going, which is a little frustrating. i would love to be able to earn esteem or $ for my work, but i can't ever quite seem to make it happen.

yeah I'm definitely going to get a msba. it's only a year, online, and I do genuinely need better data analytics skills. also it's freeeeee

Actually not only did I go crazy but I also got written up multiple times at work for fucking up and making mistakes that had real consequences because the work was so easy and pointless that I I could not pay attention to it
It's also annoying that, at least from my perspective, the more senior you get in roles the more interesting and complicated the problems become. I went crazy in a miserable way in an administrative Assistant role because none of the problems were interesting!! Super easy and doable but lame !

torn between a mba or a msba (masters in business analytics). i cannot believe i have become the kind of person who wants a mba but it regrettably might be useful for future career progression
after all why not. why shouldn't I get a second masters degree, if my job will pay for it 100%. no downsides only upsides.

portrait painting the atelier way, at new salem museum and academy.

one portrait over 5 3-hour sessions with a live model (15 hours on one portrait!!)

first day was the lay in, with thinned down umber, just to capture structure and values

there’s a thing here about for the last decade or so, online people have been very negative about small talk - the weather, or local news, or whatever - and small talk is the grease that keeps physical interactions going, and i am tired of ceding that to shut-ins
i say thank you to the bus driver when i get on and yell thank you when i get off every day i ride the bus, and i take two buses to and from work, being nice and friendly costs you nothing and should be your default expectation for yourself because it improves your day and everyone else’s day
Being nice to people is just fun. Asked young server at taco place how her day was going (fine but tired) and she asked me back. I said I managed to finish my to-do list and she unexpectedly gave me a high five! Treating people like people is always rewarding.

not a full time creative but the only reason I can afford to attend conventions and take specialized art classes and fritter away my $ on niche supplies is because i have a boring stable state government day job lol
Many full time creatives have “invisible safety nets” like bread-winning partners, trust funds, external support, etc. No shame on anyone, but it creates a false vision of success. The cost of going to cons alone on top of hoping to eat as a freelancer are untenable, IMO.
When people hear that I'm returning to part time work they often ask "are things not going well with your art?"

The problem really is things are going well, but the world is so unstable that I long for some consistency and income that I don't have to pay quarterly taxes on

If you’re a working artist talking to other creatives I’m begging you to not hide this. I have a parter who makes more and I don’t hide that and try to be as open as I can especially one on one. It’s cruel to not be honest with your fellow artist and give them any kind of false hope or fear

ghrjggj i love travel to cities so much. i love just existing around hundreds of thousands of strangers and seeing tiny slices of their lives when their paths intersect mine. and walking !! a 30 minute drive is so annoying to me but a 30 minute walk ?? That's nothing!

i now live close enough to Da Big City (NYC) to make it a chill weekend trip, so me and my boy did and it was soooo nice. i saw so many low effort Halloween costumes on party-seeking youths on Saturday night

it's been six months and I'm still regularly reeling in wonderment of how chill and nice my job is and coworkers are. like. wow. it's surreal. you mean I can just do the job I was hired for, using the skills I in particular possess ? and people, my boss included, appreciate and respect my skills?
