It's so cool how a bunch of kids realized there was a genocide in the middle east in 2023 and now suddenly every major company and government is tripping over their own dicks to turn the world into an Orwllian surveillance state so that never happens again.

Remember guys, FOMO is manufactured for maximum impact. Impact being maximum damage to ensure we are all hooked on a product and service.

GenAI isn't a art making device, its sole purpose is to eliminate the creative production force in all industries.
generative AI has become widely available in the summer of 2022 and entered mainstream in 2023

people are working themselves up in a frenzy, convinced they're utterly helpless without software younger than still-fresh canned tuna. we have been making art for at least 50,000 years, get a grip

Introducing the “AI-BOROS”: the few companies at the ‘top’ of the economy handing each other billions of (debt-ridden) dollars for a product that both doesn’t exist AND doesn’t make any money.

and we ALL get to go broke when it inevitably implodes ha ha i love it here!!!

One of the richest men in the world fired them from the paper and didn’t even pay to ensure they got home.

I’m not arguing with no account defending AI. My grandmother lives in an area being environmentally compromised currently by an ai data center. I remember the color of the lake before they built it and the sludge I see in it when I go to see her. Shut the fuck up about “the benefits of AI” forever.

What an incredible, insightful, and poetic piece: "Twin Peaks is my comfort show: not because it makes me feel better, but because it assures me the world is worse and that I am not alone in noticing."
Last year, I wrote about Jeffrey Epstein and Twin Peaks. I wrote about Laura Palmer. A generation of girls, now women, who grew up in Laura Palmer’s world.

the pitch i heard from someone awhile back is part of the reason dems were so hot to shut down ACORN is the work the group was doing on tenant protections/holding landlords accountable and, uh

i'd believe it! www.businessinsider.com/congress-ass...
When a lawmaker is your landlord: Capitol Hill is packed with senators, House members, and senior staff who rent out property
There is no limit, under current law, on how much money members of Congress can make as landlords.

Childhood was a political project, centuries of activism carving out time and space for young people to grow and learn. It's an unfinished project, and the right wing wants it ended when it's barely even begun.
The Right has spent years trying to push a return to child labor and attacking age of consent laws. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they’re exposing us to mountains of the most horrendous stuff imaginable while also normalizing it.

So much of what’s happening is the destruction of childhood.

I feel exactly the same way about all of the scientists who were RIF’d or had their funding denied.

The ripple effects are enormous and will undermine public health for decades to come.

It will take a beat for the general public to see it, but it’s coming.
One more comment on the Post debacle: this hurts journalism broadly. Good journalists will go do something else. The rest will be fighting for fewer jobs and everyone will earn less. Fewer people will take up the career. The damage done is to the ecosystem, as well as the paper.
