From this minister's op-ed: "People wanting to experience God are more likely to meet the Divine trying to shut down the Broadview, Illinois, ICE facility than we ever were in church...God does not live in our houses of worship, but...with those who are bearing the brunt of cruelty in this moment."

Here's my plea to the government, media and everyone else to stop treating NHS administrators as a problem to be eliminated, rather than the glue which holds the whole organisation together.

See, this is where the Beeb goes wrong, thinking we need to know the evidence-free opinion of Larry from Bristol because it 'balances' the other view.

The only solution is for every BBC news programme to include a verbatim quote of the most incoherent and deranged thing Trump has uttered that day.

Stephen really does have the best take on this. It’s not clear that the BBC Board or indeed the rest of the News team really understood the message of the previous reviews, which were about getting detail right. Instead they wanted to know what was ‘biased’ or not like they were blotting out stains.
The impossible dream some people on the British right are chasing is that you can have a BBC News operation that retreats from detail and expertise, that takes dictation from the government, but this will only create incompetence and failure when it suits you:
To fix the BBC, focus on competence and cash
Corporation fails to learn from criticism, while politicians have consciously reduced its scope for quality journalism

And if we think it’s bad now, imagine what it could look like, say, two months from a U.K. general election?

Could imagine huge sums in US far right cash flooding in, much of what would only be declared after the election (our electoral rules really are a jape)
Be clear, the American far right are coming for British democracy.

I can't imagine a job i'd like to do less. Managing an organisation held to a ludicrous standard by roaring idiots on a daily basis, while the main mediums it uses are all in decline and it's starved of resources.

Too early for final results, but we're seeing — once again — losses for conservatives in school board races in multiple states. Stay tuned.

I love the smell of onions and mustard in the morning.
Border Patrol agent Lairmore testifies that he was not injured by the sandwich, but he felt the impact through his ballistic vest.

The sandwich came apart and "kind of exploded" on his chest upon impact, he says.

"I could smell the onions and mustard."

One of the most odious things about Anderson's attacks on disabled people is that his wife had cystic fibrosis and a lung transplant, and he once spoke well about the impact of lung disease and the financial costs of it. So he will have known many people for whom PIP/Motability was a life-changer.
The path from abusing foreigners to abusing the disabled is well-trodden. I I hope this nugget is bright enough to reflect on who else has walked it.
Reform UK’s Lee Anderson wants to bring back the ‘invalid carriage’.

The Invacar was banned from English roads in 2003 over safety fears after some overturned and others caught fire.

I would read the hell out of a deeply reported piece on how the media/political elite addiction to Twitter is shaping their views, which in turn shape the views of millions of people. It's a total reality-warper.

The fact that an Afghanistan women's refugee team is now playing in a FIFA-sanctioned tournament is that little glint of light that we all need.

It's testament to some incredible, courageous and persistent women who will not let Afghan women be erased from sport.

Having just spent the week with my 93 year old mum, and wondering what I'll struggle with at that age that I now find straightforward, this is a timely and very good read.
Loving your country means loving it as it is — not as you wish it were.

Britain is getting old. Instead of fearing it, we should lead the world in how to live longer, better.

My new piece on making the most of an ageing society is out.
