For our WW2 Resistance miniatures, as well as the most famous - armed resistance, we also focus on folk who did a whole range of non-violent actions. These never quite get the acknowledgement that they should, so it felt important to include.

Our range focuses on women (though a fair amount of men coming in the next project) and it also happens that women's work is rarely taken as seriously. Many women after the war did not consider what they did to be resistance, just being a decent human being. It was both!

As well as historical representation, these figures, we hope, make for a wider variety of games. So many potential scenarios! And you don't have to feel limited to using these minis specifically on who they were modelled after.

This example is Vera Laska who began smuggling political and Jewish displaced people across the border of Slovakia and Hungary at the age of fifteen. In a later interview, she talks about how there was no official "you're in the resistance now" it was simply if you'd like to help, you can do these tasks, which obviously escalated. Resistance is often outside of any sort of organisation.

Depending on circumstances and ability, people's actions of resistance vary so incredibly but all add together to make a movement. Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore wanted to join the French Resistance, but due to their health could not be too physically active, yet ended up creating huge waves on the island of Jersey using their art to influence.

Prejudice still continues to day within our communities and across the UK.

Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.
