If your test for ground-breaking discoveries can’t detect the discovery of RNAi, or of CRISPR-Cas9, or the cryoEM resolution revolution or Alphafold2, maybe it’s not a very good test.

The Indigenous People of North America have decided to go back to calling the Gulf of Mexico, “Chalchiuhtlicueyecatl”. It is what the Nahuatl People originally called it as it is the domain of the goddess Chalchiuhtlicue, who is assoc w/water bodies, including the Gulf of Mexico.

Trying to find an old classic paper that was discussing how in science changes of scale induce a change of the rules, e.g explaining that chemistry is not applied physics, biology is not applied chemistry etc. Does it ring a bell with anyone ?

A question for membrane folks: should I expect a change of 3-5% percent in unsaturated fatty acids affect membrane viscosity? It is typically what people measure in cold shocks in bacteria but I find strange that such a small change would have an important effect

I'm a big fan of super plots, advocating it to everyone in the lab !
