I run into this regularly since Peter Jackson provided an excuse for people to upscale and colorize their silents.

"But but but, THE KIDS CAN'T BE EXPECTED TO WATCH OLD THINGS WITHOUT COLOR!!!"

Plenty of kids have. Plenty of kids will. Make the originals more available.
Cinemax aired colorized films in the 1980s to introduce “a new, younger audience to Hollywood’s classics."

This argument has been used to digitally desecrate old movies for 40+ years. #TheWizardOfOz #FilmSky

"I saw Free Willy when it came out. A coworker asked how it was. I said I was surprised how much I loved it, and that Madsen was the best thing in it. "Michael Madsen is in Free Willy?” he asked. “What does he do, tie the whale to a chair and cut its ear off?”

Millions of you, around the world, have put the lessons I wrote in #OnTyranny in late 2016 to good use. It has been humbling to learn how from courageous and creative dissenters, protestors, and oppositionists. I was honored when John Lithgow volunteered to read them aloud.
Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century."

Excellent, thoughtful piece, which, judging from the comments, not enough people actually bothered to read
I recently watched the same movie twice in one week; once at home and once in a packed theater. The film was exactly the same, but the different venues elicited very different responses.

That led to this piece. I suppose the headline speaks for itself.

It’s still the best way to see a film.
