Pleased to share the latest version of my paper with Arthur Spirling and @lexipalmer.bsky.social on replication using LMs

We show:

1. current applications of LMs in political science research *don't* meet basic standards of reproducibility...

A student asks: "how does one decide which to model to use for a given social science task?"

I'm not sure if I have good advice... What would you say?

I'm actually something of an artist myself
LLMs are now widely used in social science as stand-ins for humans—assuming they can produce realistic, human-like text

But... can they? We don’t actually know.

In our new study, we develop a Computational Turing Test.

And our findings are striking:
LLMs may be far less human-like than we think.🧵
Computational Turing Test Reveals Systematic Differences Between Human and AI Language
Large language models (LLMs) are increasingly used in the social sciences to simulate human behavior, based on the assumption that they can generate realistic, human-like text. Yet this assumption rem...

Also p sure this critic reviewed my last paper

Don't think I've been more excited to watch something in years. ZERO stars

Thank you, Bob! I also wanna do more with this data. If you have ideas lmk

I'm very proud of this paper and hope others can build on it to better measure changes in the media ecosystem.

Very relevant to our current times IMHO!
Currently in FirstView: In “Measuring Media Criticism with ALC Word Embeddings,” @cbarrie.bsky.social, Neil Ketchley, @aasiegel.bsky.social, and Mossaab Bagdouri introduce a method for estimating media criticism using à la carte word embeddings which requires only minimal computational resources.

Just FYI I'm super hyped about disliking all your posts

Guys I was wondering what the most urgent issue of our time was and

Fun things to do in Manhattan with a 15-month-old while it's pissing down with rain? Asking for a friend. I am the friend.

I really like that in the new Mac OS the Spotlight Search can now search just as badly through both files and apps with one keyboard shortcut

Big departure for Dapper Laughs. Glad he's traded in the polo neck though
It’s rare for me to say this about a NYTimes article, but I love everything about this story. And that photo. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/23/s...

Is this a metaphor

Thank you that's useful to know. I'm potentially interested in some work in this domain

I'm interested in whether statewide syllabi are scrapeable for the last few years. Do you have any ideas?
