2.5 weeks into the year and we've already had freakishly high temperatures in Te Tairāwhiti / East Coast, flooding in Te Tai Tokerau / Northland and a state of emergency now in place. This is not normal - this is climate change and we need to act now to avoid it getting worse in future. #nzpol

Hawkes Bay and Tairawhiti/Gisborne are set to collect daytime temperatures in the low 30s over the weekend, with the Bay of Plenty in a similar boat.

Well, the morning clouds have lifted and it’s turned into a beautiful te Tairāwhiti (East Coast) day.
Turquoise waves and a blooming Pōhutukawa tree are seen from roughly the same vantage point as this morning’s sunrise.

IMO we are absolutely not seeing local outbreaks- like the annual post Rhythm and Vines Tairāwhiti outbreak which we only really saw in hospital admissions, but I still think waste water is a useful national sketch (but then, I live in an area it is collected)
