I’m sympathetic to that position, but note that it is somewhat undermined by claims that LLMs are just nonfunctioning snake oil. Copyright infringement remedies are determined by the infringer’s profits and market substitution effects. If LLMs don’t work then these are small.

Sure! Like I mentioned, it’s predictable and understandable human behavior when necessary care is rationed and gatekept. (I also loathe snake oil salesmen *and* think that medicine’s inability to communicate with the public about what they do and why it matters is A Problem.)

And of course, there’s the AI output that doesn’t actually do/say anything that has a meaningful effect, and it’s kind of hard to have an “error” when the output is empty. I fucking hate the consumption of this snake oil and how rapidly it’s been adopted in business.
