Hi anyone new, I’m Laura, marker & pen artist (plus other arts!), trying to post my progress every day on something art related. These are some newer pieces (I’ve been into frogs recently!). 😊💜💜💜
A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of a mechanical dragon, curled around a rock in a ravine. There is an enormous white moon top right, over a landscape of smooth rock, and a night sky filled with stars. The dragon has eyes and mouth lit in orange, suggesting an energy source inside. The dragon is made of plates in a light bronze, riveted in brass. Their long tail is rising out of the ravine and casting a shadow across the rock surface behind it. I don’t know what the dragon is doing on this planet, but I’m sure they have a good reason. (Reference: Anton Seder lizard.) “The Adoration of Saint Egwin” - A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of a frog with a halo and a small cicada sitting at the top of a tan mountain rock, looking up at a gold star. The sky is deep blue, with white stars scattered across it. Top right is a big gold star. The frog is green, with darker green stripes along their body. They are in profile, facing right, looking up with wide eyes. The halo around the frog is a Victorian-style fancy halo with a gold round ring with points around the outside tipped with white pearls, and a gold line coming out of the pearls. The outline of the ring is edged with gold dots, and the center around the frog’s head outlined with gold lines like rays. To the right of the frog, is a flying cicada, with their front legs raised in adoration. The cicada’s wings are metallic green, outlined in gold, and their eyes are red. St. Egwin was a 7th century Aristocratic English bishop who was reprimanded for being too harsh on his priests, so he went on a penitential pilgrimage to Rome, and being REALLY penitent, the legend says he did the whole thing in leg shackles, the key to which he threw in the river Avon. When he got to Rome, he supposedly found the key in the belly of a fish he bought in the market in Rome. This is a completely ridiculous story, but the Catholic Church had to do something to make the early saints who weren’t martyred stand out. He founded the Benedictine Monastery of Evesham in England. A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of a smiling bright green oval-shaped frog wearing a small Santa hat, sitting upright, looking at the viewer front on, holding a square wrapped present. The frog is spotted in lighter and darker shades of green, and has large gold eyes with black horizontal pupils, open wide. The present is wrapped in red paper and gold ribbon, and looks like a vinyl record album. I made a joke that it is Jean-Michel Jarre’s “Musique pour supermarché” (Music for supermarkets), of which only one vinyl copy was pressed. It sold for a lot of money at auction, then the master plates were destroyed. It is unlikely Frog has received a copy of this album. This is probably Herb Alpert’s “Whipped Cream and Other Delights”. A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of a green barking treefrog perched at the edge of a table, reaching out with one paw to take a chocolate chip cookie from a plate of cookies. Hand-written text above the frog says “Just One Cookie…” in white on a dark blue-grey background. The plate is at the bottom of the image, cream white with a gold line around the border. There are three cookies visible, one of which is in the frog’s paw. The frog is seen from above, eyes looking up at the viewer, smiling. They are facing left, with their left front paw edging the cookie off the plate. They are round, green, and flattish, with a yellow-green underside with a brown stripe along their sides. They have large brown-irised eyes that are mostly black pupil (the real frog has horizontal pupils). The table is brown wood, like cherry wood.
